THE GOD OF ALL COMFORT

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"Who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God." 2 Corinthians 1:4 NKJV

More often, we discover that God allows us, His children to suffer, not because He loves us less, but just so we might fulfill His designed purpose for our life and walk with Him. Suffering, especially for the sake of His Son, Jesus Christ our LORD, attracts and adequately equips us with God's comfort. And this comfort becomes handy to comfort those who are going through the troubles we've been through (v4-7).

God our Father is the God of plan and purposes, and He has worked out how He wants to relate with us, His children on individual and community basis. We may have some misgivings about His choices and or approaches, that nevertheless does not reduce His sovereignty. 'For I know the plans I have for you', declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."' (Jeremiah 29:11 NIV).

So we can say without doubt that Christian suffering is God's family training programme which brings with it comfort from God, not just for us when in suffering, but God's extended hands to those who are suffering.

PRAYER BULLETS:

Father LORD, I know that You will never leave nor forsake me when I suffer for Your Son's sake, please make available for me the comfort that comes from You, to help me go through it and be Your outstretched arm to those in trouble, in Jesus name.

FURTHER READING:

1 Peter 4:12-19; 2 Corinthians 1:3-7; Romans 8:28.
