Look and Live
Scripture
Numbers 21:9 (NKJV)
So Moses made a bronze serpent, and put it on a pole; and so it was, if a serpent had bitten anyone, when he looked at the bronze serpent, he lived.
The Power of Faithful Focus
In this verse, the people of Israel had sinned by complaining against God and Moses, and fiery serpents came among them as judgment. When they repented, God provided a way for healing—He told Moses to lift a bronze serpent on a pole. Anyone who looked at it in faith was healed and lived. The cure was simple, but it required trust and obedience.
For believers today, this powerful moment points directly to Jesus Christ. In John 3:14–15, Jesus compared Himself to the bronze serpent, saying that just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up. When we look to Christ in faith, we are healed from the deadly bite of sin and receive eternal life.
This verse teaches us that salvation and healing come not through our works, but through faith—by looking to Jesus, the One lifted up for our redemption.
Reflection Questions
1. Am I looking to Jesus daily for healing, forgiveness, and strength?
2. What distractions keep my eyes from focusing fully on Christ?
3. How can I help others turn their attention toward the cross for hope and life?
Prayer
Lord God, thank You for the salvation that comes through Jesus Christ. Help me to keep my eyes fixed on Him and to find my healing and hope in His finished work on the cross. Let my life reflect the joy and gratitude of one who has been made whole. In Jesus name, Amen.
