The Devil Has No Power Over Our Lives
The devil cannot overpower our lives, for he is ignorant of our thoughts and feelings. The devil observes from the outside, and from our actions he knows - not with certainty - what is happening inside us. Rather, from his long experience with humans, he expects to know from bodily movements and words what is happening in the heart. He cannot enter a person's heart unless there is betrayal and apostasy from the faith, an absolute surrender of the will, and the permission of God's mercy for this real catastrophe to happen to a person.
The devil cannot dominate a person unless God permits him to do so, and he cannot overpower or tyrannize us unless we, conquered by our lusts and the impurity of our motives, will it. Let us say with the apostle of Christ: "We are not ignorant of his schemes" (2 Cor 2:11). And let us say with the psalmist: "Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; But we will remember the name of the Lord our God" (Ps 20:7). And with Moses the prophet: "Rise up, O Lord God, and let all Your enemies be scattered; and let all who hate Your holy name flee from before Your face."
