🏥 Passions Hinder God's Work in Us 💉 What hinders God's work in us is the passions that sin has planted in us. God looks at all these diseases like a very wise Physician, so He allows these passions to cease so that we may taste His love, and see in its sweetness what qualifies us to turn away from them. The passions of sin weaken due to the power that God's love implants. And this is not the healing, but it is the antidote that stops the effect of the poison, and yet it does not give the true life that is without diseases. After that, the wise and divine Physician grants that we die with His Son, for this is the only medicine that restores life to us and makes us able to return to health. Dying with His only Son is what removes the evil inherent within us; because God does not give grace to a soul that does not want to die, not out of stinginess, but lest it take the grace of the new life and transform it into a corrupt life, and the terrible divine judgment is fulfilled in us: "If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!" (Matt 6:23).
