๐Ÿ•Š DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 318
DATE: 14TH NOVEMBER, 2025
TOPIC: THE MOTIVE BEHIND YOUR PRAYERS
ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: Matthew 6:5–6 (NKJV)
“And when you pray, you shall not be like the hypocrites. For they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward. But you, when you pray, go into your room, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in the secret place; and your Father who sees in secret will reward you openly.”
MESSAGE

The motive behind your prayers is a major determinant of whether heaven will respond. Apostle James reminds us that “we ask and receive not because we ask amiss”—with wrong, selfish, or corrupt motives.

Many people today pray not to touch God, but to impress men. They pray for visibility, for honor, or to appear deeply spiritual. Jesus warns that such people already have their reward—the applause and attention of men. This is why many pray but remain unchanged; their character is still rough, their speech unguarded, their attitude dishonoring—even toward their own parents—because their prayers were aimed at men, not God.

But Jesus gives a powerful secret: shut the door. This does not only mean a physical door, but shutting the door of distraction, performance, comparison, and the craving for public recognition. Even in a corporate gathering, you can shut the door of your heart and focus entirely on God.

Heaven responds to authenticity, not imitation.Prayer transforms your inner life before it manifests outwardly. If prayer has not touched your heart, it cannot touch your behavior. If prayer has not worked on your spirit, it cannot refine your conduct.

Let God be the center of your prayer—whether in private or public. Do not mimic tongues you have not grown into, or imitate postures and expressions you see in others. Submit yourself sincerely to God, and He will grow you into deeper spiritual experiences in His time. When God becomes the motive, transformation becomes the result.

PRAYER

Father, purify the motives of my heart. Help me shut every door of distraction, pride, and performance in prayer. Teach me to seek You sincerely and to pray with a genuine heart that longs for Your presence. Transform me from the inside out. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
