1. Evening Prayer

I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety. ⏤ Psalm 4:8

Christians are not perfect, but they should be perfectly restful. ⏤ A.W. Tozer

Lord, You alone make us live in safety. We lie down at night under the shadow of Your wings, and our sleep is sweet because You sustain us. We ask You now for another night of rest and comfort. As the sun has set and darkness covers us, we’re reminded of how much we need You. We have no power to keep or care for ourselves. Be our protection tonight. Let no harm come near us, let no sickness invade our home, let nothing cause us fear.

As the stars come out as the sun sets, we’re reminded of the promises of Your grace, which shine even brighter when the sun of our prosperity or happiness fades. We wouldn’t see the stars without the night, and we thank You for the many uplifting, comforting words in the Scripture that we wouldn’t notice without our troubles and sorrows. We’ve found many precious meanings in Your Word during times of trial that we never saw before. Make Your Word more and more a treasure house of goodness, which You will reveal to us as we need it.

Grant us an evening blessing. Bless our home life. May our love for each other grow stronger every day. Help us to see the best in each other. Help us each to give our best to one another. Protect us from impatience and lack of kindness, and give us the grace to be kind to each other. May we learn from Jesus how to love at home. Enable us to be helpful to each other, making each other better, stronger, and more courageous.

In Your great mercy, O God, forgive us all our sins, and bring us at last into Your heavenly kingdom, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer. Amen.

Honoring Parents, Building Godly Families, Honors God – (Proverbs 30:17)

Daily Proverbs

The eye that mocks his father, and scorns obedience to his mother, the ravens of the valley will pick it out, and the young eagles will eat it.
Daily Bible Study
God set up the family unit which consist of father, mother and children as the basic unit of society. The family is the most basic building block of any civilization, and it's the families which make up the heart of any society. Moreover, every nation's strength lies in the strength of its families. In God's economy godly parents raise godly children, who then repeat the cycle with their own children. However, we live in a world of darkness, a fallen world greatly influenced by the one the Apostle Paul calls the "prince of the power of the air" who is Satan. And this darkness is constantly at work destroying the family, why? Because Satan knows if he can destroy the family, he can destroy any society.

If Satan can destroy the family, then he can destroy a nation's faith in God and bring a country to ruin from the inside out. He can do this because broken families turn people's hearts away from God and away from His word, the Bible. And thereby diminish the chances of someone hearing the Gospel message of salvation through faith alone in Christ alone. And we see that occurring in our world today. First, the family is destroyed, which in turn pushes God out of society because people do not want to be reminded of God's law. This in turn destroys civil order and promotes further rebellion. And in this passage Agur is not only pronouncing a curse on those who aid in the destruction of the family. But he is also, in dramatic fashion, illustrating the destruction that awaits any nation who abandons God and destroys the family, which are the basic building blocks of its own society.

God Knows The Hypocrites
I do not consider that it is my place as a Christian to stand around making judgments and calling other people “hypocrites.” Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only man I know who was holy and perfect enough to call the religious leaders of the day hypocrites. I am just a man with faults and shortcomings of my own, and I must always consider myself lest I be tempted! I preach to my own congregation about our faults and our failings, with the warning that some of our professions of blessing and victory may get into the area of “unintentional hypocrisy.” Through the grace of God and the kindness of our spiritual ancestors, we may have spiritual light that some others do not have. But in all honesty, we are wretchedly far below what we should be in living up to it day by day. It helps us to be honest, frank, and humble to know that the great God Almighty knows the secrets of every person’s heart!

Verse
Let us therefore not judge one another anymore. Romans 14:13

Thought
Our Lord Jesus Christ is the only man I know who was holy and perfect enough to call the religious leaders of the day hypocrites.

Prayer
Lord, You are the Judge; You have things under control. Remind me not to take on responsibilities that are not mine. Keep my eyes on You, and make my own way straight.
