1. Evening Prayer
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, [He is] my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. ⏤ Psalm 91:1-2
God is always trying to give good things to us, but our hands are too full to receive them. ⏤ Augustine of Hippo
O God, our Father in Heaven, You have kept us through another week, and now we come to You seeking an evening blessing. We thank You for all that this week has been to us. Your goodness and mercy have been with us every day and every night. You have provided for us daily, just as You provided manna for Your people in the wilderness. You have blessed us with health, with friends, with the comforts of home, and with all the good things You have given us this week.
But we haven’t been as faithful in our part. We’ve been forgetful and careless. We haven’t fulfilled all our duties to each other and to our neighbors. We’ve left many things undone that we should have done. Please forgive us and help us to learn from our failures so that we can live holier lives in the coming week.
We leave all our work in Your hands. We look forward to Sunday with hope and longing, as we desire to come again to Your house of worship. Our souls thirst for You like dry, barren land thirsts for rain. Please prepare us for Sunday, so that when it comes, we may be ready to receive rich blessings.
Keep us through the night. Protect us from all harm. Preserve our bodies from sickness and accidents, and our souls from all kinds of evil. May we rest in peaceful sleep and wake up refreshed. We ask for special protection for our home from fire and any other dangers. We also remember our friends. Please give them a Saturday evening blessing.
Hear our evening prayers, bless us, comfort us, strengthen us, and keep us. We ask all these things in the name of Jesus Christ, our Redeemer. Amen.

2. Decision Making
Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you
- Matthew 6:33
Life can often seem very complicated. Career decisions, family dynamics, academic ambitions -- every area and issue of life has its own challenges.
However, Jesus spotlights for us the one overriding, all-encompassing priority for living and, by doing so, simplifies our complicated decisions considerably. Seek first the kingdom, Jesus says, not personal advancement, financial security, or self-fulfillment.
Should you accept this promotion? Seek first the kingdom. Where should you send your children to school? Seek first the kingdom. Should you pursue this relationship? Seek first the kingdom.
While this directive does not provide the specific answer to every problem, it certainly does eliminate a great number of possible options. If it does not further the kingdom of God and reflect his righteousness, then it does not meet your basic criteria and need not be considered any further.
When we single-mindedly seek the welfare of the kingdom, then Jesus promises that God will seek our welfare, as well: all these things will be added to you. What things are these? Everything that is necessary and good for you, everything that will assist you in your goal of advancing the kingdom of Christ.
As you face difficult and convoluted questions today, filter your thoughts and decisions through this all-important objective: seek first the kingdom of God. http://www.baptistbiblehour.org/resources/devotional/decision-making-9/

Sin Always Hides Itself, Masquerading as Something Innocent – (Proverbs 30:18-20)
Sin Always Hides Itself, Masquerading as Something Innocent – (Proverbs 30:18-20)
Daily Proverbs
There are three things which are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I do not understand: The way of an eagle in the air, the way of a serpent on a rock, the way of a ship in the midst of the sea, and the way of a man with a virgin. This is the way of an adulterous woman: She eats and wipes her mouth, and says, "I have done no wickedness."
Daily Bible Study
These passages present us with a riddle of sorts for the reader to understand. Agur is talking about hypocrisy and hiding bad behavior, or hiding sin. He first gives us four "good" comparison which illustrate a natural progression or a moving forward in life. In addition, they also leave no trail or evidence they were there. The first is an eagle flying in the air, leaves no trail, next a serpent slithering across a rock leaves no evidence it was there. They are God's creation carrying out their intended purpose in life. Likewise a ship in the midst of the ocean leaves no trail and a husband and wife show no evidence of wrongdoing. The phrase, "man with a virgin," was a Jewish idiom which referred to a newlywed couple just married and on what we would call their honeymoon.
And just as these things appear natural and leave no mark of sin, so to the adulterous woman hides her sin in everyday life, not knowing that God not only see's our actions, but also the desires and intents behind our actions. Moreover, in a larger context, these passages are referring to the nature of sin. Sin will always operate in the dark, hiding from the light of day, masquerading as something innocent in order to fool observers. Sin works in rebellion toward God, and for the destruction of those who embrace it. It does this to prevent exposing itself for the wickedness it truly is. Moreover, sin loves to hide out of sight, in order to entice others and grow in its destructive behavior. Sin's desire is for our complete destruction and separation from God for all eternity, and in order to accomplish that, sin will hide itself in order to grow more powerful and destructive.

4. Fighting Words.
Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. (Isaiah 41:10)
When I am anxious about some risky new venture or meeting, I battle unbelief with one of my most often-used promises: Isaiah 41:10.
The day I left for three years to study in Germany, my father called me long distance in New York and gave me the promise of this verse on the telephone. For three years, I must have quoted it to myself hundreds of times to get me through periods of tremendous stress.
When the motor of my mind is in neutral, the hum of the gears is the sound of Isaiah 41:10. I love this verse.
Of course, it’s not the only dagger in the arsenal of my faith.
When I am anxious about my ministry being useless and empty, I fight unbelief with the promise of Isaiah 55:11, “So shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
When I am anxious about being too weak to do my work, I battle unbelief with the promise of Christ, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
When I am anxious about decisions I have to make about the future, I battle unbelief with the promise, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my eye upon you” (Psalm 32:8).
When I am anxious about facing opponents, I battle unbelief with the promise, “If God is for us, who can be against us?” (Romans 8:31).
When I am anxious about the welfare of those I love, I battle unbelief with the promise that if I, being evil, know how to give good things to my children, “how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” (Matthew 7:11).
So by all means fight unbelief with every promise in the book. But it helps to have one central, default weapon. And for me that has been Isaiah 41:10, “Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Precious, precious promise!
