Good evening, brethren.

1. Do you pray in the evening? Our evening prayer focuses on "Refreshed by the Shepherd's care."
2. Do you know that Jesus is our example?
3. Do you know that you are called to help the weak, the poor, and those in need?
4. Do you blame someone else?
To know more, read the message below:

1. Evening Prayer

A Psalm of David. The LORD [is] my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. ⏤ Psalm 23:1-3

God loves importunate prayer so much that He will not give us much blessing without it. ⏤ Adoniram Judson

O Lord, You are our Shepherd; we will lack nothing. You make us lie down in green pastures and lead us beside still waters. You have been our Shepherd today. We have been in Your pastures as we have read Your word and worshiped with Your people.

We bow at Your throne with grateful hearts at the close of this day. We gather up the precious fragments of this day to carry with us, to feed upon in the days ahead. You have kept our feet from stumbling, our eyes from tears, and our souls from death.

We have walked with Jesus, and our hearts have burned within us as He talked with us along the way.

We ask You to fix deep in our hearts all the good impressions, lessons learned, and influences that have touched our lives today. Too often, we make sincere resolves and promises while our hearts are warmed with love, only to forget them tomorrow. Fix this Sunday's teachings so deeply in our minds that we never lose them. May we be stronger in faith, more earnest in purpose, and more holy in thought and feeling because of our communion with You this day.

Ever-living God, who neither slumbers nor sleeps—take charge of our bodies and souls during the dark hours of the night. Give us refreshing rest and sleep. Let tomorrow be sweet and holy, made so by the blessings of Sunday flowing into it. May we carry the fragrance of this day into the world’s life. And to Him who is able to keep us from falling and to present us faultless before the presence of His glory with exceeding joy, to the only wise God, our Savior, be glory forever and ever. Amen.

2. Jesus Our Example

Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man
- Luke 2:52

This statement is a summary of eighteen years in Jesus' life, from the time he was twelve years old until the narrative picks back up at age thirty.

This was a time of relative obscurity, but it was the majority of our Savior's stay on earth. What a marvelous description is given of how he spent those days!

First, notice the fact that he increased -- he was continually growing. Too often we tend to plateau in our walk with God. We reach a certain point in our faith and we stop growing, stop studying, stop seeking a deeper relationship with God. Many of us allow whole years to go by in which we stagnate spiritually, but the course of our Savior's life for these eighteen years was one of continual growth.

As a truly human child, his mental and emotional faculties were limited. But as his body and mind matured, so did his capacity for knowledge and emotion and fellowship. And each step of physical maturity brought with it increased spiritual maturity. As his capacity grew, so did his relationship with God.

It is almost always the opposite with us. Children are usually rather innocent and trusting and affectionate. But as they grow up, each additional experience and phase of physical growth leads to less innocence, less purity, less trust.

As a human, Jesus' mental and emotional and physical capacity was always filled to the brim with love for God, purity of heart, and a desire to please his Father in heaven. Our goal should be the same.

May we never stop increasing in the love we have for God and the pleasure we bring to God.

Chronological Bible Study from the book of Proverbs

We’re Called to Help the Weak, the Poor and Those in Need – (Proverbs 31:8-9)
We’re Called to Help the Weak, the Poor and Those in Need – (Proverbs 31:8-9)
Daily Proverbs

Open your mouth for the speechless, in the cause of all who are appointed to die. Open your mouth, judge righteously, and plead the cause of the poor and needy.
Daily Bible Study
Part of the king’s God given duties was to mediate the compassion of God to his people. This meant God held him responsible for righteously upholding His laws and the defense of the helpless. Part of the God given duties of the king was the defending of the week and showing compassion to the poor. He was to do so for both the physical and the material needs of the people he ruled over. However, because of our fallen sin nature most human kings never lived up to their godly responsibilities. But there is coming a King who will rule perfectly, that king is Christ Jesus our Lord. However, until He returns, we are to help those in need, defend those who cannot defend themselves and plead for those who are ruined by the condition of weakness.

We are to seek out the truth in all matters, regardless of personal or social bias. We are not to jump to conclusions based on emotions or social pressure. We are to remember, this is a fallen world we live in and the social movements of the world are inspired and corrupted by the one the Apostle Paul calls, “the prince of the power of the air,” who is Satan. Moreover, if we claim to be Christian and God has placed us in a leadership role within society, then we also have a God given responsibility to treat all those under us fairly and without bias. We do so out of the love we have for others and the love we have for Christ and the respect we have for our Lord. We do so remembering we are His representatives here on earth. Our lives should reflect the Gospel to those around us, clearly displaying God’s love and grace to all people.

Blame Someone Else
In the earliest day of failure and tragedy in the Garden of Eden, Adam came out of hiding, knowing full well his own guilt and shame. Adam confessed, “We ate from the fruit of the tree that was forbidden, but it was the woman who enticed me!” When God said to Eve, “What did you do?” she said, “It was the serpent that beguiled me!” In that brief time our first parents had learned the art of laying the blame on someone else. That is one of the great, betraying evidences of sin, and we have learned it straight from our first parents. We do not accept the guilt of our sin and iniquity. We blame someone else. If you are not the man you ought to be, you are likely to blame your wife or your ancestors. If you are not the young person you ought to be, you can always blame your parents. If you are not the wife you ought to be, you may blame your husband or perhaps the children. Sin being what it is, we would rather lay the blame on others. We blame, blame, blame! That is why we are where we are.

Verse
The man said, “The woman you put here with me—she gave me some fruit from the tree, and I ate it.” Genesis 3:12

Thought
That is one of the great, betraying evidences of sin, and we have learned it straight from our first parents. We do not accept the guilt of our sin and iniquity. We blame someone else.

Prayer
Lord, I know that I have sinned, and I know that I have nobody to blame but myself. All I can do is humbly bow before You in repentance and ask You to forgive me. Thank You for forgiving me of so much.
