The Importance of the Watchman
Son of man, I have made thee a watchman unto the house of Israel: therefore hear The Word at My mouth, and give them warning from me. Ezekiel 3:17
This was how cities were defended.
That was the job of the watchman. So when you hear watchmen in the spirit, understand — these are God’s scouts. Elevated. They see farther than those at ground level. The man walking in the market sees five people.
The one in the watchtower sees five battalions. So when someone speaks from that kind of elevation, don’t be too quick to challenge their intelligence report. You’re not standing where they are.
And it’s not just about spiritual maturity. You could be a king — and not be in the tower. Kings aren’t on sentry duty. They receive intelligence from those who are. And when the communication system is functioning, the king can have a fuller picture.
But if a leader has no watchmen — or they’re off duty — he’s blind. He’s giving orders without intel. And the enemy can breach the gates while the people say, “Our general hasn’t said anything.” But what if your general is asleep in the war room?
