Good evening, brethren.

1. Do you pray in the evening?

2. Do you know about sin and its effects?

3. Do you turn at the Lord's rebuke?
4. Is His cross your cross?

To know more, read the message below:

1. Evening Prayer

Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father which is in heaven. ⏤ Matthew 18:10

Work as if everything depended upon you and pray as if everything depended upon God. ⏤ Francis of Assisi

We asked You this morning for the grace to be cheerful and to be messengers of good cheer to others. We thank You for whatever we were able to do in learning this lesson. Bless to others every cheerful word we spoke, and may the influence of our lives be a blessing to many. Where we failed to practice this lesson, please forgive us. We ask that You continue to teach us, and may we grow in this grace of cheerfulness until our daily lives become daily blessings.

We have tried to carry comfort and strength to others. Yet some of those around us are in trouble that we cannot reach. The trouble is beyond our ability to help. May You be their comforter. If it is not Your will to take away the trial, may You give them the grace to endure it with patience, and may You cause it to work for their good so that they grow in grace and are brought nearer to You.

We make a special prayer tonight, O God, for the children. We thank You for childhood and for all it means to homes and to this world. We thank You for children’s voices, which bring so much music into life. We thank You for the simplicity and humility of the children. Bless the children of this world. May they be instruments of grace in every home where their voices are heard. Bless homes for the sake of the children. May all parents be so like Jesus to the little ones who gather around them, that the young and tender lives will be beautiful and blessed, and that they may grow up into strong men and women, fearing You, loving and living the truth, and making the world holier. And to Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we will give praise, honor, and worship, forevermore. Amen.

2. Sin and Its Effects

Exhort one another daily, while it is called Today; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin
- Hebrews 3:13

We cannot help but notice from this exhortation the deceitfulness of sin, the swiftness with which it can deceive us, and the urgency with which we must battle against it.

Sin lies to us, causing us to harden our hearts and draw away from God in unbelief (12). When we give in to any sin, we are not able to think as clearly and joyfully and trustingly as before.

Whether the sin is lust or anger or pride or greed, sin deceives us into thinking that satisfaction is found somewhere else than in God. It promises fulfillment through sensual pleasure, or putting others down, or lifting ourselves up, or gaining more "stuff."

But this is a lie. True and lasting joy is only found in the path and presence of the living God. Everything else is just a dead, limp substitute that has been painted and polished and perfumed to look enticing.

But how swiftly we give in to the lie! The writer reminds us that we need daily exhorting, lest sin have its hardening effect on our hearts. We can walk faithfully for a week, a decade, or half a lifetime and then suddenly fall in a day! Constant vigilance, and the exhortation of others, is needed in order to avoid sin's pitfalls today, no matter how successful we've been so far.

Finally, the writer presses the urgency of our situation. It is only called "Today" for 24 hours! Then tomorrow will come, and soon the end of all days. Do not put off the vital work of repentance and faithfulness. Today is already almost over, and our Lord that much closer to returning. http://www.baptistbiblehour.org/resources/devotional/sin-and-its-effects-10/

Turn at the Lords Rebuke (Proverbs 1:21-25)

Daily Proverbs

Wisdom calls aloud outside; She raises her voice in the open squares. She cries out in the chief concourses, At the openings of the gates in the city She speaks her words: “How long, you simple ones, will you love simplicity?” For scorners delight in their scorning, And fools hate knowledge. Turn at my rebuke; Surely I will pour out my spirit on you; I will make my words known to you. Because I have called and you refused, I have stretched out my hand and no one regarded, because you disdained all my counsel, And would have none of my rebuke.

Daily Bible Study
Without God’s wisdom and his guidance we are in danger of adopting the world’s wisdom, why? Because we live in a fallen world which is at enmity against God. A world which is influenced by the one the Apostle Paul calls, “the prince of the power of the air” who is Satan. Therefore, without God’s direction we are in danger of following the world’s example on how to treat others. The world’s wisdom can lead down several roads. Some will tell us to, “live one day at a time it’s only about today and the pleasures of the moment. These are the simple who are unaware of God.”

Others will take the position of mocking and scorn. They critique and criticize never building up only destroying. These are those who actively work against the kingdom of God. And still others believe only self-matters, do whatever is good for you and gets you ahead of others. Success is all that matters, regardless of what it does to others. These are the fools, bent on self-destruction. However, God’s wisdom cries out to us, God’s wisdom is for life! God’s wisdom is to give us life and to give it more abundantly. God’s wisdom not only brings life for today, but is also changing our hearts, as it brings eternal life for those who place their faith in Christ alone, through faith alone.

His Cross Is My Cross
To take Jesus Christ into your life without reservation is to accept His friends as your friends and to know that His enemies will be your enemies! It means that we accept His rejection as our rejection. We knowingly accept His cross as our cross. If you then find yourself in an area where Christ has no friends, you will be friendless except for the one Friend who will stick closer than a brother. I made up my mind a long time ago: those who declare themselves enemies of Jesus Christ must look upon me as their enemy, and I ask no quarter from them! And if they are friends of Christ they are my friends, and I do not care what color they are or what denomination they belong to. If the preachers would faithfully tell the people what it actually means to receive Christ and obey Him and live for Him, we would have fewer converts backsliding and floundering. Preachers who are not faithful one day will stand before the judgment seat of Christ and answer to a faithful Savior why they betrayed His people in this way!

Verse
The disciple is not above his master, nor the servant above his lord. Matthew 10:24

Thought
To take Jesus Christ into your life without reservation is to accept His friends as your friends and to know that His enemies will be your enemies!

Prayer
Lord, when I accepted Your lordship in my life I aligned myself with You. May my enemies never be Your friends, nor my friends Your enemies.
