Good evening, brethren.

1. Our evening prayer focuses on "Gratitude for the week's journey."

2. Do you know that God gives wisdom?

3. Do you know the things that possess us?

4. Do you seek God's wisdom?

To know more, read the message below:

1. Evening Prayer

So teach [us] to number our days, that we may apply [our] hearts unto wisdom. ⏤ Psalm 90:12

The one concern of the devil is to keep Christians from praying. ⏤ Samuel Chadwick

Our Father, what shall we render unto You for all the mercies and kindnesses of this week received from Your hand? We have walked through these days with You, and You have kept us and blessed us. We have not always walked worthily. We have grieved You many times. We thank You for the mercy that never fails and for the forgiveness of our many transgressions.

May You use our week's work and bless it. We have met many people, some only for a moment, in passing, and some many times. Bless to each of them our passing words or our friendship. We have tried to be kind to those who were in need or trouble; may You bless all our giving, our visits to the sick or poor, and all our efforts to help others in any way. Forgive us for the times we failed to show love, when we passed by on the other side.

We remember this evening the many people around us in various conditions and circumstances. Some are Your children; let a blessing rest upon them. Make them more and more worthy, true-hearted, and whole-hearted Christians. Some are careless, drifting away from Jesus. Have mercy upon these, and save them from the perils of their course. Some are far from You, and do not know You. We ask You to send Your Spirit to convict them and bring them to repentance.

We remember . . .
The poor in their poverty,
The sick in their suffering and pain,
The sorrowing in their distress.

Let a blessing rest upon the little children for whom no prayer rises in their own homes. Turn the hearts of all prayerless parents to their children, that they may plead with You for them. Fold us now in Your almighty arms, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

The Lord Gives Wisdom and Understanding (Proverbs 2:6-9)
The Lord Gives Wisdom and Understanding (Proverbs 2:6-9)

Daily Proverbs

For the Lord gives wisdom; from His mouth come knowledge and understanding; He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk uprightly; He guards the paths of justice, and preserves the way of His saints. Then you will understand righteousness and justice, equity and every good path.

Daily Bible Study
God speaks to us through the scripture, which is the Bible. His word was given through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, to those God chose to record His revelation to us. In addition, God speaks to us through His Holy Spirit who indwells all followers of Christ. This proverb is a promise for those who have placed their faith in God through Christ Jesus our Lord. That by the study and meditation of His word and through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, we can gain wisdom, understand righteousness and love justice. Moreover, if we follow the guidance of the Holy Spirit in our day to day lives, He will transform our minds and hearts bringing wisdom into our lives. This is because each and every believer is indwelt by the Holy Spirit upon their salvation, and it’s the Holy Spirit who helps us to better understand the Bible

Without the Holy Spirit, we cannot truly understand the Bible, why? Because the Holy Spirit illuminates our understanding of scripture in light of Jesus, who He is and what He has done for us. In other words, our salvation and relationship with Jesus is key to understanding the Bible. Jesus himself told us, the “scriptures are those which testify of Me.” The Bible is God’s revelation to mankind, regarding His plan of redemption and His interactions with humanity. The Bible from front cover to back cover, from the Old Testament to the New Testament, testifies and speaks of Jesus. The Holy Spirit begins His process of spiritual growth inside of each of us, beginning with our salvation. This process of spiritual growth is called sanctification, and it’s the process by which God changes us from the inside out. As the Bible says He replaces our heart of stone with a heart of flesh, making us more sensitive to the things of God. In addition, it is the Holy Spirit who illuminates scripture and increases our understanding of God’s word as we read the Bible.

Do Things Possess Us?
I think a lot of people in our congregations get confused when some learned brother advises us that we must all join in a fervent fight against “materialism.” If men and women do not know what materialism is, how can they be expected to join the battle? Materialism in its crisis form occurs when men and women created in the image of God accept and look upon matter as “the ultimate”—the only reality. The advice, “We must fight materialism,” does not mean that everyone should get a sword and run after a fellow named Material, and cut him down. What it does mean is that we should start believing in the fact of God’s Creation, and that matter is only a creature of the all-wise and ever-loving God! The believer is not deceived into believing that the physical things we know and enjoy are the ultimate end in themselves.

Verse
Nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy. 1 Timothy 6:17

Thought
If men and women do not know what materialism is, how can they be expected to join the battle?

Prayer
Lord, I pray that You will remind me that it is the Creator, and not the created that matters in life. Help me to focus on You and not the temporary things of this world.
