LIVING AS SALT AND LIGHT
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men. Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven." Matthew 5:13-16 KJV.
Our LORD Jesus describes us, His disciples as 'the salt of the earth' and 'the light of the world.' Therefore our calling is to live and model our lives in a manner that attracts others to the truth and goodness of our LORD Jesus Christ, adding 'valuable tastes' to the lives we cross their path, and shinning our lights to the dark world around us, as His disciples and missionaries.
Our lives should be the examples of, and characterised by kindness, love, and a genuine concern for the physical and spiritual well-being of the people around and about us. We should take time to introspectively examine our individual lives and be truthful to ourselves in providing answers to the following questions:
1). Am I living as salt and light?
2). Am I intentional in demonstrating the grace and love of Christ in my relationships, place of work, and in my community?
When we are done with the above exercise, we should ask the Father to, in His mercy reveal to us areas where we can shine brighter and make greater impact for His kingdom, to His glory.
PRAYER BULLETS:
LORD Jesus, thank You for the privilege of being Your disciple and making me fit to be sent out as Your missionary.
Engrace me to, through the salt You deposited in me, add value, taste, and healing to world around me. Help me shine brighter with Your light in me to the glory and honour of Your name.
FURTHER READING:
Mark 9:49-50; Colossians 4:6; Luke 1:78-79; 11:33, 35.
