*Devotional Message*
When Jesus went up the mountain with Peter, James, and John, the Bible records that as they watched, His countenance was changed and became dazzling white. This was not merely a supernatural displayтАФit was a revelation to us that the true essence of prayer is transformation. Prayer is meant to conform us into Christlike character, not just to obtain things.
Many people approach prayer only as a means of asking, yet asking is only a by-product of intimacy. Jesus Himself assured us that if we seek first the Kingdom of God, all other things shall be added unto us. This means prayer first works on us before it works for us.
This pattern is also seen in the life of Moses. When Moses went up the mountain to meet God, he did not rush out of GodтАЩs presence. And when he came down, his face was radiant with GodтАЩs glory. That glory was not cosmeticтАФit was the evidence of time spent in GodтАЩs presence. Transformation does not happen in haste; it happens when we learn to wait upon the Lord.
Waiting on God refines us. It reshapes our desires, our attitudes, and our character. That is why true prayer requires staying powerтАФthe ability to remain in GodтАЩs presence until His work is completed in us. This waiting demands patience, and many times God will test that patience, not to frustrate us but to mature us.
At times, we must agree with GodтАЩs way of doing things, not our own. He knows better, and He knows what is best for us. There are blessings we pray for that, if released before our character is transformed, would destroy us instead of blessing us. Therefore, God first works on the vessel before pouring out the oil.
Child of God, before God entrusts you with greater responsibility, influence, or resources, He ensures that you have the capacity to handle them. Prayer is GodтАЩs tool for that preparation. So do not rush out of His presence. Stay until you are refined, shaped, and transformed into the image of Christ.
*Prayer*
Father, give me the grace to stay in Your presence. Deliver me from hurried prayers and shallow intimacy. Transform my character until I reflect Christ. Teach me to wait upon You and to trust Your process. Prepare me to handle every blessing You intend to release into my life. In JesusтАЩ name, Amen.
