*🕊 DOMINION DAILY DEVOTION ~ DAY 12*
* DATE: 12TH JANUARY, 2026*
*TOPIC: PRAYER: LEARNING TO LISTEN TO GOD*
*ANCHOR TEXT: 1 SAMUEL 23:2 NKJV*
*“Therefore David inquired of the LORD, saying, ‘Shall I go and attack these Philistines?’ And the LORD said to David, ‘Go and attack the Philistines and save Keilah.’”*
*Devotional Message*
Yesterday we established that prayer is an act of humility. Beyond that, prayer is also a channel of communication between man and God. For effective communication to take place, there must be two parties—one speaking and the other listening. Sadly, many believers have mastered speaking in prayer but have neglected the discipline of listening.
Often, we rush into God’s presence, present our requests, and hurry out before God responds. As a result, many conclude that God is silent or that He is still “processing” their prayers, when in reality, God spoke—but they were not present long enough to hear. As children of God, prayer should not only be about presenting our needs but also about waiting to hear what the Lord is saying.
David is a clear biblical example of a man who understood this principle. In the book of Samuel, before going to battle, David inquired of the Lord whether he should go and whether God would deliver his enemies into his hands. The Lord answered him clearly. David did not stop there—he went further to inquire about the strategy to use, and again the Lord responded. That word from God became his strength and guaranteed his victory.
In the same way, we must take time to listen to what God is saying concerning our purpose, family, business, marriage, ministry, and even our economy. Victory is not only in knowing what God wants us to do but also in following His instructions fully. When we listen and obey, we walk in the perfect will of God, receive divine strength, and experience consistent victory.
*Prayer*
Father, teach me to wait in Your presence and to listen to Your voice. Deliver me from hurried prayers and help me to hear Your instructions clearly. I choose to follow Your word in every area of my life so that I may walk in Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
