God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of His blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished 26. He did it to demonstrate His righteousness at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. *TOPIC:* GRACE TEMPERS JUSTICE. *THE MESSAGE:* Today's text presents a profound message about the interplay of grace and justice in God's plan of salvation. It illustrates how God's grace tempers justice. God's forbearance allowed sins to go unpunished for a time, to demonstrate His righteousness. Indeed, God upholds moral order justly and offers salvation to those who believe. Verily, salvation is not based on works that one can boast about but a gift through faith (Eph. 2:8-9). Beloved, just as God demonstrated forbearance and justice, you are called today to practice patience and grace toward others. Are you gracious in dealing with people who deserve justice? Do not seek to exact revenge against your offender. *REFLECTION:* God is just and merciful. *PRAYER:* Father, help me to temper justice with mercy. Thank You for guiding us today in response to our morning prayer. Please accept whatever we’ve done to please You. Forgive us for anything wrong in our actions, attitudes, or feelings. If we’ve held onto unkind thoughts, been envious, selfish, resentful, or jealous—please forgive us and cleanse our hearts. We sincerely want to grow beyond these faults of our old nature. We’re not content to live with these things ruling our lives. But You know how hard it is for us to overcome these struggles in our hearts. May Your grace within us help to overcome them. We earnestly pray that You will fill us with Your Holy Spirit, and help us to let go of the things that displease You, and embrace the qualities of a new life filled with the gentle affections of our Savior. May the fruits of the Spirit grow in us. May whatever is pure and lovely be found in us. We now leave in Your care all the work of this day. If we’ve left any negative impact on someone’s life, we ask that You prevent it from causing harm. Take whatever has been good and helpful in us today and use it to bless others and to bring glory to Your great name. As we go to rest, we commit ourselves to Your care for the night. You are our protector. We rest securely under the shadow of Your wings because You will keep us safe. We pray for the poor, the sick, the troubled, the sorrowful, and the dying.
