* DATE: 18TH JANUARY, 2026*
*TOPIC: HONOURING GOD _5*
*ANCHOR SCRIPTURE: HEBREWS 13:17; 1 THESSALONIANS 5:12ā13*
*āObey those who rule over you, and be submissive, for they watch out for your souls⦠Let them do so with joy and not with grief, for that would be unprofitable for you.ā ā Hebrews 13:17*
*Devotional Message*
Another vital way we show honour to God is by honouring His servantsāthe priests, pastors, evangelists, teachers, apostles, prophets, and bishops whom He has appointed to shepherd His people.
The way we relate with Godās servants reflects our understanding of honour. This includes how we speak to them, how we treat them, how we speak about them, and how we respond when they make mistakes. Do we respond with love aimed at restoration, or with condemnation and public criticism? Scripture calls us to restore in love, not to destroy through careless words.
Honouring Godās servants also extends to practical care. These servants have families to take care of, mouths to feed, and assignments that require resourcesāfood, support, and financesāto travel and spread the Gospel. When we support them, we are not doing them a favour; we are partnering with God in His work.
Furthermore, honour does not stop with the servant aloneāit extends to their families. The way we treat their spouses and children matters. Do we show them respect, or do we treat them casually? Honour must be holistic.
The manner in which shepherds are treated often determines how they serveāwhether they minister from a joyful, loving heart or from a wounded and bleeding heart. Dishonour creates grief, and grief becomes a hindranceānot only to the shepherd but also to the flow of blessing to Godās people. Scripture is clear: what we sow, we shall reap. Dishonour is a seed, and so is honourāeach produces its own harvest, even for generations to come.
When we honour Godās servants, we enable them to serve with joy and freedom, and in turn, they are able to pronounce blessings over Godās people, just as Moses and Aaron were instructed by God to bless Israel. These blessings flow best where honour is upheld.
Therefore, one of the clearest ways to honour God and reflect His love is by taking good care of the shepherds He has entrusted with His sheep, so they may fulfill their assignment joyfully and effectively.
*Prayer*
Father, give me a heart that understands honour. Help me to honour Your servants in word, action, attitude, and support. May I never be a source of grief to those You have called to shepherd me. Let my life reflect love, respect, and obedience to You. In Jesusā name, Amen.
