LORD! SET A WATCH OVER MY MOUTH

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips." Psalm 141:3 KJV

Ever heard the phrase 'Talk is cheap?' Not only is the person being referred to assumed to be making false assertions with many words, but is not regarded with integrity by reasonable members of the society.  When your mouth is full of your own words, you will have little time or interest in God’s words. Talking too much habitually means listening too little.
This is not in any way trying to ‘negativise’ or discouragement of the idea of coming to the point and saying something worthwhile, it is good counsel for you as you talk with others each day.  If you're honest with yourself, you'll admit that much of your conversation is nothing more than the rhetoric.

The LORD Jesus warned, ‘But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken. For by your words you will be acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned.’ (Matthew 12:36-37 NIV). Pause a minute and ponder on what your usual conversations are like. Do your speeches add value and are profitable to others? And more importantly, do your words glorify God?  The LORD Jesus can engrace and give you the enablement to speak words that edify others and glorify Him, not just to fill the air.

PRAYER BULLETS:

LORD Jesus, help me by Your Spirit to speak when necessary and edifyingly to Your glory.

FURTHER READING:

Proverbs 17:27-28; Ephesians 4:29; James 1:19, 26.
