LENDING TO THE LORD
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"Whoever is generous to the poor lends to the LORD, and he will repay him for his deed." Proverbs 19:17 ESV.
Our foundational Scripture is a proper graphic illustration of God's pro-poor disposition, and so, one of the greatest expressions of our love for God is how we relate with and treat the poor and needy in our midst or those our paths cross with. Truthful fact is that no man is self-sufficient because everyone has needs, which are in different areas: spiritual, financial, material, etc. John, the beloved, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes 'A man can receive nothing unless it has been given to him from heaven.' (John 3:27 NKJV). Whatever you have today is entrusted to you as custodian by God to be used to bless humanity. Remember the rich fool in Luke 12:16-21. The rich man became foolish due to his clingy attitude towards his wealth, he forgot God and didn't care about men; the night he was confronted with this truth was his last night. God called him to give account of his stewardship. What is your attitude to what you have been blessed with?
What you have will make you happy, but what you give will give you joy. In the body of Christ and the larger society, the poor and needy people are everywhere, especially those that are still struggling to have the basic needs of life such as food and clothes. These ones are special to God because He is concerned about their plights, our anchor Scripture says that 'He who has pity on the poor lends to the LORD, And He will pay back what he has given.' (Proverbs 19:17 NKJV).
Reach out to the needy around you today. Don't waste what you don't need again (food, clothes, shoes, etc); gather them, clean them and give them to the Benevolence Department of your church or any charity outfit, to pass on to the needy. Give financial assistance to the needy around you, and God will greatly reward you.
PRAYER BULLETS:
ABBA Father, I thank You for Your blessings on me. Help me and increase my capacity to give generously to Your work and to the poor and needy.
