*THE TRUE BREAD OF HEAVEN*
*TEACHING SERIES*
*MINISTRY OF PRAYER (Part 22)*
*Anchor Scripture: James 4:3 (NKJV)*
“ *You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.”*

*Additional Scripture Reading: James 4:2–4; Psalm 66:18; Proverbs 16:2; Matthew 6:33*

Yesterday we saw that one of the reasons people do not receive from God is simply because they do not ask. As Apostle James states, “You do not have because you do not ask.”

However, another reason why at times we pray and do not see results is because we ask with the wrong motives.

The Bible clearly says that we may ask and still not receive because we ask amiss—meaning our intentions are misplaced. Many prayers are driven by selfish ambition, competition, comparison, or the desire to satisfy the flesh rather than to glorify God.

Before presenting any request to God, it is important to examine the motive behind our asking. Why do you want that promotion? Why do you desire that increase? Why are you praying for that platform or opportunity? Is it for God’s glory or for self-exaltation? Is it to advance the Kingdom or to feed pride?

Scripture reminds us that God weighs the motives of the heart. He is not only concerned with what we ask but why we ask it.

When our desires are aligned with His will and Kingdom purpose, our prayers carry power. But when they are centered on personal pleasure and fleshly satisfaction, they hinder our answers.

Therefore, child of God, purify your motives. Seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all other things shall be added unto you.

We shall continue tomorrow by God’s grace.
