DANIEL'S PRAYER OF NATIONAL REPENTANCE AND REVIVAL
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"O Lord, great and awesome God ... 'we have sinned and committed iniquity; we have done wickedly and rebelled... 'Yes, all Israel has transgressed Your law, and has departed so as not to obey Your voice ... 'O Lord, according to all Your righteousness, I pray, let Your anger and Your fury be turned away from Your city Jerusalem, Your holy mountain; because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and Your people are a reproach to all those around us.'" Daniel 9:4, 5, 11, 16. NKJV.
The request that a man makes to God will determine the type of answer he gets. Survival prayers will bring food and clothings, but may not bring the type of answer that Daniel got in response to his repentance and revival prayers.
Survival prayers are about ‘I’, ‘me’, ‘mine’, and ‘ours’, and they are mostly about temporal things. The prayer of Daniel from the context of our anchor Scripture (vv 3-16) was significantly different from a survival prayer. It was a prayer of total repentance to the extent that Daniel did not exonerate himself from the sins of his forefathers. He prayed, 'We have sinned, and have committed iniquity, and have done wickedly which spake in the name to our kings, our princes, and our fathers, and in all the people of the land. O Lord, to us belongeth confusion... To the Lord our God belong mercies and forgivenesses, though we have rebelled against him.' (Daniel 9:5-19). Such must be the prayer of a man who waits to experience revival; a deep, truthful, humble pleading. It is good to pray for our daily needs, but we must also set aside time for prayers of repentance and revival, not only for ourselves but also for our family, church and nation.
Indeed our families, churches and nations, churches are in need of revival and God is depending on us His children who have seen the prevalent decay to move from survival prayers for once, to an intercessory prayer of repentance and revival on behalf of our people to God, like Daniel did. There is need to turn the complaints we have about our countries to prayers of intercession until something happens; only then would we experience the transformation that we all desire in the land.
Can God depend on you like Daniel for the prayers that will bring positive changes in your family, your local church, the body of Christ, your nation and around the world?
PRAYER BULLETS:
Father LORD, raise for Yourself intercessors from among Your people for the Church and the nations who will pray more of repentance and revival, and not survival prayer. I am available to be among the numbers, dear LORD.
