A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven. *TOPIC:* ATTRACTS *THE MESSAGE:* Today's passage challenges the Church to actively live out its mission - being a light that reflects God's love and grace. Jesus teaches about the values of His Kingdom and the characteristics of those who follow Him. He called His disciples to demonstrate their faith through their actions. Just as a city on a hill is easily seen, the believer is called to be a beacon of truth and hope in a world often overshadowed by darkness and despair. The good works of the believer should point others to the love of God, serving as a testimony of His grace. Is your light attracting others to God, or has it gone so dim that they are repelled? As a believer, ensure that your lifestyle and service attract others to Christ. *REFLECTION:* Let your light shine before men. *PRAYER:* Lord, help my light to shine brighter every day. INJURY AND BITTERNESS "See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many." - Hebrews 12:15 A few years ago, an old man was stabbed by a 16-year-old offender. When the police asked the offender why he committed such a horrible act, he said he had a brother who was handsome, intelligent and a sportsman. 'my Mom always says that I am stupid and wishes I was like my brother.' Bitterness This is one of the examples how young people are emotionally hurt and start doing things nobody would expect. A person does not break because of physical injuries, but by the bitterness which is a result from such injuries. Bitterness starts as a small seed and if you do not deal with it, it gradually grows into a huge monster which destroys a man. We read in the abovementioned Bible scripture that we should pay attention so that bitter roots do not grow in us, because they will cause trouble and corrupt many others. Dear parents, God has placed an incredible ability in your child to forgive and forget disappointments and emotional injury. However, when a child is injured over and again, this causes bitterness and will soon not be manageable any longer. The medicine for bitterness Not only children, but also older people are injured and have bitterness towards their family or perhaps a pastor. What can you do about it? I have the answer from the Bible. Jesus says in Matthew 6:14-15: 'For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.' You will never have peace in your heart if you do not fully forgive others. Tozer Lord, You alone make us live in safety. We lie down at night under the shadow of Your wings, and our sleep is sweet because You sustain us. We ask You now for another night of rest and comfort. As the sun has set and darkness covers us, we’re reminded of how much we need You. We have no power to keep or care for ourselves. Be our protection tonight. Let no harm come near us, let no sickness invade our home, let nothing cause us fear. As the stars come out as the sun sets, we’re reminded of the promises of Your grace, which shine even brighter when the sun of our prosperity or happiness fades. We wouldn’t see the stars without the night, and we thank You for the many uplifting, comforting words in the Scripture that we wouldn’t notice without our troubles and sorrows. We’ve found many precious meanings in Your Word during times of trial that we never saw before. Make Your Word more and more a treasure house of goodness, which You will reveal to us as we need it. Grant us an evening blessing. Bless our home life. May our love for each other grow stronger every day. Help us to see the best in each other. Help us each to give our best to one another. Protect us from impatience and lack of kindness, and give us the grace to be kind to each other. May we learn from Jesus how to love at home. Enable us to be helpful to each other, making each other better, stronger, and more courageous. In Your great mercy, O God, forgive us all our sins, and bring us at last into Your heavenly kingdom, through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.
