SPIRITUAL DISCERNMENT AND UNDERSTANDING
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
'“Be careful,” Jesus said to them.' Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.'" Matthew 16:6 NIV.
The Pharisees and Sadducees that asked the LORD Jesus for a sign was not to make any good use of it but for entertainment sake. For the LORD Jesus knew their intentions and refusal to acknowledge Him as Lord. So He addressed them as hypocrites, for they ought to have known some basic facts about Him just like their understanding of weather tendencies (vv 1-3). In view of that, the LORD Jesus did not give them a sign as they had requested, it was obvious they were faithless to believe all that the law and prophets said about Him (LORD Jesus), hence He addressed them as a wicked and adulterous generation (v 4). The only needed sign was already given, which was that of Jonah, the LORD Jesus concluded.
It appeared the disciples were not comfortable with the LORD Jesus' answer to the Pharisees and Sadducees, so He admonished them to beware of the yeast of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees (v 6). Unfortunately, the disciples misunderstood the LORD Jesus, thinking He was referring to physical yeast in loaves of bread, which they failed to bring along (v 7). We have a lot of believing Christians in the body of Christ today like the disciples, that don't have proper understanding of spiritual things. But unfortunately, when it comes to strange doctrines and teachings, they help the spread of it all over the places like how the yeast corrupts the whole dough on contact. An invitation for in depth Bible study for them to put into practice lessons learnt is the only needed deliverance to such people.
Who do you think are the Pharisees and Sadducees today, the nominal orthodox priests? No, it is anybody with knowledge of the Bible that brings up strange doctrines or teachings out of it. Let us beware of teachings that are disconnecting us from God. Most importantly, the ones that have rendered the Church powerless and a toothless dog.

LORD Jesus, thank You for Your admonitions about the leaven of the Pharisees. I desire to stand on the right side with You on matters and issues of holiness. I can only do that with Your help.
