“It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man.” — Psalm 118:8

Good morning and praise God. I hope you’re having a blessed Valentine’s Day! You know, I think I was above 25 when I thought it was no longer good for a man to be alone. Before then, I had quit love to concentrate on my studies after trying and failing terribly. But this time I thought I was mature. I coaxed her, I told her all the love words, I even told bishop I loved her. I posted I was in love. I used some money God had given me to clear a debt just to take her to her parents and declare my love.

Oh, I didn’t know I was not the first, or second, or more… She betrayed me terribly. I walked hills and valleys with a downcast heart. And then I started seeing all the warnings I had received. It was over. That experience and another one which I wish I could forget taught me something deep: human love can fail, but God’s love never fails. Valentine’s Day reminds us of affection and romance, but it should also remind us that the only love we can fully trust is God’s. People may betray, promises may break, but God’s Word stands firm. The Bible says love never fails! God is love.

Jesus Himself taught us that the greatest commandment is to love God first, and then love others. When we reverse that order — loving people more than God — we set ourselves up for heartbreak. But when God is first, even if people fail us, we are not destroyed. Kugongewa will not kill us or even the worst betrayal. We will not hate God hate God or people or do bad things because His love heals, His love sustains, and His love empowers us to forgive and keep loving.

So today, as you reflect on love, remember that trusting God above all else is the only way to keep your heart safe. Do not give up on loving others, because love is still God’s command. Do not give up on forgiving, because forgiveness is the doorway to healing. They betrayed Jesus even after loving them unconditionally, they killed Him but they didn't know it was God's plan to save the world! They thought He was a young man like any other. So anchor your heart in Christ Jesus, because His love is the only love that never disappoints. God loves you.

Shalom. Shalom.
