GOD'S PERFECTION AND PURPOSE 2
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"For I know the plans I have for you,” says the LORD. 'They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.'" Jeremiah 29:11 NLT.
Yesterday, we began to consider why God may permit His own children to suffer. Today, we have for our anchor Scripture the prophecy of Jeremiah to the Israelites that were in exile in Babylon. They were carried away as prisoners of war, displaced and deprived of every comfort, and used as slaves in a foreign land. Yet God told them to settle down in that land, build houses, acquire whatever they could, marry, and give birth, so that their population would not diminish in view of His plan and purpose for them. They were also admonished to pray for the peace and prosperity of the land where they are captives, because they would prosper only if there was peace in the land. What a prophecy and instructions from God to His people in exile.
Invariably, the exile was one of God's programme to work out His plan and purpose for His people, 'For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end. (Jeremiah 29:11 KJV).
God allowed the Babylonians to carry the Israelites into captivity; does God delight in the pain and suffering of His people? No. It is God's purpose in all these that is paramount. He says He has a thought towards His people, to give them a future and hope. 'Then shall ye call upon me... and I will hearken unto you. And ye shall seek me.... and I will turn away your captivity, and I will gather you from all the nations, and from all the places whither I have driven you, saith the LORD; and I will bring you again into the place whence I caused you to be carried away captive.’ (Jeremiah 29:12-14 KJV).
In spite of the enormity of what you MAY BE going through in life or service, endeavour to seek out God's perfect purpose. That would help you to overcome.
PRAYER BULLETS:
ABBA Father, I surrender to Your perfect will and purpose for me in all things. Engrace me to patiently wait for the manifestations of Your purpose for my life. All things shall work for my good.
FURTHER READING:
Jeremiah 29:1-14; Daniel 9:1-23 Romans 8:28.
