Dear Father,
When Abraham was on assignment to offer his son as a sacrifice, the Scripture says, “He built an altar, laid the wood in order, bound Isaac his son, and laid him on the altar upon the wood. And he stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.” I am amazed at how smoothly this process unfolded without struggle from either Abraham or Isaac. Abraham was willing to offer Isaac, and Isaac was willing to be offered.
I infer that the practices of faith and obedience in recent times pale in comparison to those of antiquity; when men trusted in You as though they had lost their minds or will. Men were willing to offer their most prized possessions without asking why. We see obedience without reluctance, even when the cost was a life. In contrast, today there are more men who weigh options and continually contemplate divine instructions. Did humans become more intelligent or less spiritual?
They say obedience is better than sacrifice, but I also believe that obedience requires sacrifice. Any height in this Kingdom is attainable, but it comes at a cost. We are not oblivious to the level of our obedience, it is evident in our results. Too often, we worry and question the potency of faith without a corresponding analysis of our willingness to obey; forgetting that the men who commanded great results also obeyed great instructions.
Father, truly, we need Your help.
