THE BAIT OF SATAN

One day early in the morning A friend of mine and I went out fishing. We got there, took our fishing rods out, and put our bait on the hook. We were fishing for two hours, and I didn't get a bite or as much as a nibble. After two hours of sitting there, hoping and waiting to catch a fish, I finally pulled my line in and realized I was using the wrong bait for the water that I was fishing in. Even as a casual fisherman, I know what bait to use for what the water that I'm fishing in.

For Satan, this is not a problem. Satan knows exactly what bait to use as temptation for us. Satan might know us better than we know ourselves. Satan knows what temptations in his tackle box of sin to use to trip us up and cause us to sin.

Of course, YHWH doesn't want us to sin, but he also knows that we are sinners, born short of the glory of YHWH, and that we, as humans, are going to sin one time or another.

We know what the scriptures say in 1 John 2:1…

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, YHWH Messiah the righteous:
1 John 2:1

So are we keeping ourselves from sin…

We know that whosoever is born of YHWH sinneth not; but he that is begotten of YHWH keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
1 John 5:18

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Hebrews 12:1

Abstain from all appearance of evil.
1 Thessalonians 5:22

It also says to flee fornication in 1 Corinthians 6:18 and to flee from idolatry in 1 Corinthians 10:14. 2 Timothy tells us to flee also youthful lusts.

So just like any good fisherman who knows what bait to use and what kind of water, Satan knows how to push our button, to get us riled, off track, off the beaten path, but we have to keep our eyes on YHWH.

James 4:7-10

Submit yourselves therefore to YHWH. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to YHWH, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of YHWH, and he shall lift you up.
