TODAY'S MESSAGE SERMON TOPIC “WHEN GOD BREAKS THE BOW: DIVINE JUDGMENT, SOVEREIGNTY, AND THE DEFENSE OF HIS PURPOSE” Key Text: Jeremiah 49:35–39 INTRODUCTION Prophecy in Scripture is not given to satisfy curiosity but to reveal God’s authority over nations, weapons, and history. In Jeremiah 49, God speaks against Elam, an ancient kingdom located in what is today southwestern Iran. The Lord declares that He Himself will break the “bow of Elam,” the chief of their might—their most powerful military strength—before it can achieve its intended purpose. This message reveals a timeless truth: > No weapon, no power, no nation can override the sovereign will of God. SCRIPTURAL FOUNDATION – Jeremiah 49:35–39 (Summary) 1. Yet restoration follows judgment – God’s mercy remains in His hands PROPHETIC UNDERSTANDING OF “THE BOW OF ELAM” In ancient times, the bow represented strategic military dominance In modern prophetic interpretation, many believers understand the “bow” to symbolize advanced weaponry The emphasis of the prophecy is not what the weapon is, but who disables it — the Lord Himself > “I will break the bow of Elam, the chief of their might.” (Jeremiah 49:35) The message is clear: God does not negotiate with weapons—He neutralizes them. Divine intervention: God intervened overnight—without Israel firing a single weapon. Outcome: 185,000 soldiers were struck down. Lesson: God can end a threat before a battle ever begins.
