THE MARKS OF A TRUE DISCIPLE 2

 A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me." John 15:4 NKJV

The mark of abiding, abounding and abundant fruitfulness cannot be overemphasised or discountenanced in the life of a true disciple of our LORD Jesus. It begins with abiding, that is, maintaining your communion and fellowship with Him. This provides you with the necessary spiritual nutrients to abound; that is, to always thrive in the work of the Lord, not having to be pressurised, coerced, or bribed to work for Him.

Discipleship will be insufficient if you have not become a magnet, to attract men into the kingdom of God. And this is realised when you deliberately give your neck to the yoke of the LORD Jesus to learn of Him, even as you abide and abound, then abundant fruitfulness will naturally follow.

The LORD Jesus came to give us the abundant life, which includes eternal life but the abundant life is the life of fruitfulness.
Fruit is what is produced and what can be visibly seen. It is the result of a life flowing from the LORD Jesus, the true Vine Himself. Fruit is a process or the outcome of something that must be cultivated daily, weekly, and yearly. There is no instant fruitfulness and fruit cannot be forced. The LORD Jesus said that your abiding in Him would cause you to go from fruitfulness to abundant fruitfulness; and that your fruit should remain (vv 2-5, 16).

God has an insatiable desire for fruits, but when you are not bearing fruits, it doesn’t really bother him (v 6). When God is interested in your fruitfulness, He purges (prunes) you so that you can bear much more fruit, (v 2).

PRAYER BULLETS:

LORD Jesus, O that I may abide, abound and be abundantly fruitful, bearing on my life Your mark of ownership.
