THE PILGRIMS GUIDE SATURDAY MARCH 14, 2026 SEEING BEYOND THE PHYSICAL SIGHT A WORD FROM THE WORD:  "And the LORD said to Abram... 'Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.'" Genesis 13:15, NKJV.  What you set your eyes on you begin to value. Abram had his eyes set on the big picture, that is his walk with God, and not the ephemeral things and mundane distractions. He did not forget his primary encounter with and subsequent instructions and promises from God. The immediate effect of Abram's value and focus was his prophetic upgrade from Abram to Abraham by God, this happened to be a complete contrast with Lot who couldn’t get past what his eyes saw. This is how the writer of the book of Hebrews puts it: 'By faith Abraham obeyed when he was called to go out to a place that he was to receive as an inheritance. And he went out, not knowing where he was going.' (Hebrews 11:8 ESV).  Abraham lived by (the eyes of) faith, Lot lived by (physical) sight. It’s so dangerous to simply live by sight, this is because the eyes can be deceptive, and you'll begin to value whatever you set your eyes on. So, like Abraham, the great father of faith, you need to be careful about your choice and values of what to, and how to see.  Whatever you put in front of your eyes, for better or for worse, that’s what you begin to value.  So be on guard.
