THE WORD FOR TODAY. SATURDAY, MARCH 14,
"THE BIBLE IS GOD SPEAKING TO YOU (3)"
‘Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that…you may grow…’
1 Peter 2:2 NIV
WE ALL KNOW about the famous Heinz food products slogan, 57 Varieties. Well, most of us have at least that many excuses for not reading our Bible every day. You say, ‘But I have a very busy life.’ Edgar G. Watts of North Hollywood, California, aged 84, read the Bible from cover to cover 161 times. And here’s something you probably don’t know: he had the use of only one eye for 55 years. Can you imagine telling a physical trainer you’d really like to be fit, but you don’t have the time to come to the gym? He’d say that you’re not serious! Jeremiah said, ‘When your words came, I ate them; they were my joy and my heart’s delight…’ (Jeremiah 15:16 NIV). Developing a love for the Scriptures requires three things: 1) Decision. You must establish Bible reading as one of your daily priorities or it’ll never happen. 2) Duty. You may not feel like going to work each day, or caring for your family, but you know it’s your duty so you do it. What about your soul? Don’t you have a duty to feed yourself spiritually and stay strong? 3) Delight. When you reach this phase, the battle over Bible reading is won. When business leaders are about to make an important decision, they say, ‘It’s time to pull the trigger’. Stop ‘dabbling’! It’s time to pull the trigger and give God’s Word its rightful place in your life. ‘Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up.’

ii. BREAK THE LIMITATIONS OF THE PAST
"If God is for us, who can be against us?" - Romans 8:31
Every four years, top athletes from all over the world come together to compete against each other. They all want the same: to win a gold medal and break the world record. And when the record is broken, people say: 'Who will be able to supersede this'? Do you know what always strikes me? There is always someone who believes in himself and breaks the record again. And after this, others will follow.
The key
What is my point here? I would like to help you find the key to break the limitations in your mind. If you keep thinking: 'I cannot do this or that', you will never be able to live beyond your limitations. The battle field is in your mind. If you are defeated in your mind, you have already lost the battle. If you do not think that you are able to, you will never be successful.
The Bible calls this a stronghold of wrong thinking. Many are trapped in this. It is a vicious circle and therefore they never win.
Evangelist Johan Maasbach used to say: Be a faith optimist, an 'everything-is-possible' thinker. Because God says: 'Everything is possible for one who believes.'
Have your parents, friends or other people said: 'You cannot do anything; you are stupid; you are not as good as your sister or brother?' Do not listen to this any longer.
Break through the limitations of the past by trusting God, by believing that in Jesus you are more than a conqueror. He who is in you is greater than he (the evil one) who is in the world. Fill your mind with positive thoughts! Say: 'God is with me all the days of my life. I can do the impossible with God.'
You will be an example for your descendants if you push and break through your limitations by taking a step of faith.

i. Morning Prayer
For ye were sometimes darkness, but now [are ye] light in the Lord: walk as children of light: ⏤ Ephesians 5:8
Prayer brings God’s omnipotence into the fight for human souls. ⏤ Wesley L. Duewel
O God, as the morning has risen upon us, may the Sun of Righteousness also rise upon us. Chase away the shadows of darkness from us, and may we be light in the Lord. Enable us to put off all the works of darkness, whatever belongs to the old evil nature, and to put on the garments of light, doing the works of the day and not of the night. May our light shine before others so that seeing us, they may glorify You.
We desire to grow in grace. As the deer pants after the water brooks, so our souls long after You. Our souls thirst for God, for the living God. Nothing else will satisfy them. This world has nothing in it to meet the needs of our immortal spiritual natures. Let us not try to feed ourselves on that which is not bread, but may we learn to bring all our needs to You who alone can satisfy them.
We come to You to begin the day so that we may have Your blessing upon it. Nothing is complete without You. As the flowers need the dew and the sunshine to make them fragrant, so our lives need Your blessing to make them truly happy. Lay Your hand upon our heads as we bow before You. Direct our feet in all the day's paths. We want to carry out Your plan, not our own. Order our steps in Your word. Give us our work as we go on. Help us to be truthful, honest, and diligent in all our words and conduct. Prosper us in all our undertakings unless they are wrong. Defeat whatever we undertake that is not agreeable to Your will.
We go out now in our Savior's name, and we ask You to take us and use us to do Your will and to bless others. We ask all for Jesus' sake. Amen.

THE WORD FOR TODAY. FRIDAY, MARCH 13, 2026.
"THE BIBLE IS GOD SPEAKING TO YOU (2)"
‘…I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.’
Job 23:12 NIV
PSYCHOLOGISTS ARE agreed on this point: people only keep doing what rewards them! So when Bible reading becomes unrewarding, we quit. As a result we feel guilty, and become spiritually weak and discouraged. Your soul can no more thrive without God’s Word than your body can thrive without a daily intake of food. The Bible says, ‘He humbled you, causing you to hunger and then feeding you with manna, which neither you nor your ancestors had known, to teach you that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord’ (Deuteronomy 8:3 NIV). One of the dangers of the iPhone is that you begin to live on ‘hits’ of information and short messages limited to 140 characters or less. This creates spiritual ADD (attention deficit disorder). God cannot be reduced to a limited word count or a few hurried moments in your day. To prosper, you must meditate day and night on the Scriptures (Psalm 1:1-3). You say, ‘But I don’t have time to read the Bible.’ How much time do you spend each day watching television? Hours? If you find television to be rewarding, but not God’s Word, your soul is in need of intensive care! If you want to change your life, change your habits and start reading the Bible. Job, who had more trouble than any of us will ever see, said, ‘I have not departed from the commands of his lips; I have treasured the words of his mouth more than my daily bread.’

ii. JESUS SHOWS US GOD
"No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is Himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made Him known." - John 1:18
People all over the world are looking for a higher power, for a creator or maker, for God. In Genesis 11 we read that men built the tower of Babel to be able to reach heaven. Whatever men would possibly try, they would not be able to come to God because of sin. God Himself made a way to get closer to us, so we are able to know God, the Creator.
At Christmas we celebrate the birth of Jesus from the virgin Mary. Hundred years before His birth, the prophet Isaiah had already prophesied about Him:
'For to us a Child is born, to us a Son is given, and the government will be on His shoulders. And He will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace' (Isaiah 9:6).
When Jesus was growing up, He spoke about His Father, about God, our Maker. He spoke about the Kingdom of His Father. The Jews were angry because Jesus called God His Father and thus claimed to be equal to God (see John 5:17-18).
Nowadays, there are also many people and several religions who do recognize that Jesus was born but believe that He was merely a prophet. However, we, the Christians, believe that Jesus is the Son of God. 'In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God' (John 1:1).
Jesus was sent by His Father and always talked about His Father. 'For I have come down from heaven not to do My will but to do the will of Him who sent Me' (John 6:38).
Jesus says in John 14:7: 'If you really know Me, you will know My Father as well. From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.' And in John 14:6: 'I am the way and the truth and the life.'
No one is able to come to God except through His Son, Jesus Christ. He is still the same today and does what He said in His Word.

2. Morning Prayer for today.
i. Morning Prayer
I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, ⏤ Ephesians 4:1
Prayer is not overcoming God’s reluctance, but laying hold of His willingness. ⏤ Martin Luther
O Jesus, You have called us with a holy calling. We desire to be worthy of the honor You have bestowed upon us. You have redeemed us by Your blood. You have taken us into fellowship with Yourself. You are not ashamed to call us brethren. You have made us heirs of God, joint heirs with You. You have given us eternal life!
Make us indeed worthy of this exalted honor. Cleanse and purify us, that we may be like You in spirit, disposition, and character. Give us the same desires that are in Your heart, that we may hate what You hate and love what You love. May we be partakers in Your work for the upbuilding of Your cause and the extension of Your kingdom.
Give us this day the same mind that was in You. You left Your heavenly glory and became human, that You might be our Redeemer. You lived to serve, giving out Your life in unsparing service, even dying in love for Your people. We desire to have the same spirit. Save us from all selfishness, which would lead us to withhold ourselves from serving others with the best that is in us. Save us from all pride, which would lead us to think of ourselves more highly than we ought to think, and may we always be clothed with humility. Lead us into Your ways of service.
Lord Jesus, help us to live this day as You would live if You were here in our place. May we be holy, harmless, undefiled, and separate from sinners. May we be kind in all our family relationships and with those outside. Help us to be diligent in all our business. May we live unspotted from the world. Bless us in all ways in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

From now on, you do know Him and have seen Him.' And in John 14:6: 'I am the way and the truth and the life.' No one is able to come to God except through His Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.
