"THINKING AND ACTING LIKE JESUS (4)"
‘…Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it…’ Matthew 11:29 TM
THE RELATIONSHIP Jesus had with the Father is a prototype of the relationship He wants you to have with Him. Jesus was so intimate with the Father that He could say, ‘…I am in the Father, and the Father in Me…’ (John 14:11 TM). Jesus was also intimately acquainted with the Holy Spirit. His first recorded sermon begins with: ‘The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me…’ (Luke 4:18 NAS). He was ‘…led by the Spirit…’ (Matthew 4:1 NIV) and ‘…full of the Holy Spirit…’ (Luke 4:1 NIV). He returned from forty very tough days of being tempted by the devil in the wilderness ‘…in the power of the Spirit…’ (Luke 4:14 NIV). He was submitted to the Father and empowered by the Spirit. It was His habit to go to worship (Luke 4:16). It was His practice to memorise Scripture (Luke 4:4). Luke says Jesus ‘…often slipped away to be alone so He could pray’ (Luke 5:16 NCV). His times of prayer guided Him. He once returned from prayer and announced that it was time to move to another city (Mark 1:38), and another time of prayer resulted in the selection of His disciples (Luke 6:12-13). Jesus was led by an unseen hand. ‘…The Son does whatever the Father does’ (John 5:19 NCV). In the same chapter, He stated, ‘I can do nothing alone. I judge [each situation] only the way I am told…’ (John 5:30 NCV). Today, pray, ‘Father, keep me sharp, sensitive and surrendered to You in all things; not as a last resort but a first response. Take over. Jesus within me, live Your life through me!’

ii. THE DANGER OF AN UNCONTROLLED TONGUE
"It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison." - James 3:8
A tongue that cannot be contained is one of the deadliest weapons on this planet. James 3:6 says: 'The tongue also is a fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the whole body, sets the whole course of one's life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell.'
An uncontrolled and indifferent tongue will completely degrade the spiritual life of a Christian. A loose tongue makes our spiritual life worthless! James 1:26 says: 'Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless.'
James refers to people in the church here. They look gentle and kind, but their tongue is like a sharpened razor at work, at home, with friends and in church. They complain, gossip, lie and curse.
Poison bags
There are Christians who have poison bags like a snake. There will come a day when we will be held accountable for what we have said. Jesus says in Matthew 12:36: 'But I tell you that everyone will have to give account on the day of judgment for every empty word they have spoken.'
Each word will be accounted for on the day of judgment. When we make a mistake, we should not only confess our sins but also completely remove the poison bag and its roots from our life. Our tongue must be controlled. How can we do this? Jesus said: 'With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible' (Matthew 19:26).
You cannot control your tongue just as a wild horse cannot tame itself. That is done by a horse-tamer. Our tamer is the Holy Spirit. He is very experienced and only He is able to control our tongue.

i. Morning Prayer
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, [which is] your reasonable service. ⏤ Romans 12:1
Let every step be a ministry for Him, every task a consecration. ⏤ J.R. Miller
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, look upon us graciously as we wait at Your feet. Receive our thanks for the goodness of another night, and accept this consecration of our lives to You for another day. We are Your own children, and we will trust You for all that our lives need. We will strive to obey You. We shall need Your grace in order to do Your will—and we ask You to give us grace that we may be faithful and dutiful children.
Enable us to do our simplest tasks for You as carefully as if they were the largest and most sacred ministries that mortal is ever set to do. May we find our Father's business . . .
In our household chores,
In our school duties,
In our play and recreation,
In our everyday jobs.
May we learn to do all in the name of the Lord Jesus and for Him.
All around us are those who need kindnesses which we can render. May You give us so much of the Spirit of Jesus, that we shall go about doing good all the day. Even while engaged at our ordinary work, may we be so filled with divine love, that we shall give help and cheer to all we meet by our cheerful manner, by our encouraging words, and by our thoughtful kindnesses. May our wayside ministry, as we move along at our work, be a ministry of continual blessing.
Draw us now near to You, and give us the touch of Your hand before we go out. If we should never all come together again as a family, if death should call any of us home before the nightfall, let us not be separated in the heavenly home. Let us not fall by the way into any sin. Mercifully preserve us from all evil. And may grace, mercy, and peace be with us all forever. Amen.
