TRIUMPHANT ENTRY
Sunday Service

1. Jesus Approaches Jerusalem with Purpose

As Jesus drew near to Jerusalem, He was fully aware that His earthly mission was reaching its climax. For three years, He had faithfully preached and taught about the Kingdom of God, revealing truth, healing the sick, and preparing His disciples. Now, He was ready to fulfill His ultimate assignment—to give His life for the salvation of humanity. His entry into Jerusalem was not accidental; it was intentional and prophetic, marking the beginning of the final journey to the cross (Matthew 21:1–11; Luke 19:28–44).

2. The Symbolism of the Donkey

Jesus chose to enter the city riding on a donkey, a powerful symbol of humility and peace. Unlike earthly kings who rode on horses to display power and wage war, Jesus came as a King of peace. This act fulfilled prophecy (Zechariah 9:9) and revealed the nature of His kingdom—not one of violence or political dominance, but one of righteousness, humility, and salvation.

3. The Cry of “Hosanna”

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, the crowds welcomed Him with great excitement. They waved palm branches and shouted, “Hosanna!” meaning “Save us now!” (Matthew 21:9). Their praise acknowledged Him as the Messiah, crying out, “Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!” (John 12:13). It was a moment of celebration, honor, and recognition of His kingship.

4. Misunderstanding the Mission

Despite their enthusiasm, the people misunderstood Jesus’ true purpose. They expected a political deliverer who would free them from Roman oppression and restore Israel’s earthly kingdom. Instead, Jesus came as a spiritual Redeemer to save humanity from sin. Their expectation of a conquering king blinded them to the reality of a suffering Savior (Luke 19:10).

5. Fulfillment of Prophecy

The Triumphant Entry was a direct fulfillment of prophecy. Zechariah had foretold that the King would come to Jerusalem “righteous and victorious, lowly and riding on a donkey” (Zechariah 9:9). By riding into the city in this manner, Jesus openly declared His identity as the promised Messiah and King of Israel.

6. A Mixed Response from the People

As Jesus entered Jerusalem, He encountered both praise and opposition. While many rejoiced and believed in Him, others—especially the religious leaders—viewed Him as a threat to their authority. This mixture of acceptance and rejection highlighted the tension that would soon lead to His crucifixion.

7. A Turning Point in His Ministry

This moment marked a major turning point in Jesus’ ministry. He was no longer operating quietly; He publicly revealed Himself as King. The Triumphant Entry set in motion the events of His final week—filled with teaching, confrontation, sacrifice, and ultimately, victory through resurrection.

8. The Path to the Cross

Though the crowds celebrated, Jesus knew that the same voices shouting “Hosanna” would soon turn. He understood that His glory would come through suffering. The Triumphant Entry was not the end of His mission, but the beginning of the path to the cross, where He would defeat sin and death once and for all.

9. The True Meaning of Triumph

The true triumph of Jesus was not in the praise of the crowd, but in His obedience to the will of God. His victory was not political but spiritual—bringing redemption, restoration, and eternal life to all who believe. His kingdom is everlasting and not of this world.

10. Our Response Today

The Triumphant Entry challenges us to examine how we receive Jesus. Do we follow Him for what we want, or do we truly understand His purpose? Like the crowd, we may praise Him, but we must also surrender to Him as Lord. True worship comes from recognizing Him not just as a King, but as the Savior of our souls.
