SERMON TITLE: DREAMS OF MANIPULATION — WHO IS REALLY IN CONTROL?
There are nights you wake up and your heart is racing…
You saw things you didn’t plan… felt things you didn’t choose…
It looked real. It felt powerful. It seemed like something was controlling you.
But hear this clearly:
Not everything that appears powerful has authority over your life.
Some of you have been giving too much power to what you saw in a dream—
and not enough trust to the God who controls your destiny.
KEY SCRIPTURE
Proverbs 16:9
“In their hearts humans plan their course, but the Lord establishes their steps.”
This verse exposes two realities:
1. You have thoughts, plans, and inner processes
2. But God has the final authority over your direction
So the question is not “What did I dream?”
The real question is: “Who is establishing my steps?”
POINT 1: YOUR DREAMS REVEAL WHAT YOUR HEART IS HOLDING
Dreams are often a reflection—not a revelation.
What you carry during the day:
Stress
Fear
Temptation
Influence from people and media
…can replay in your sleep.
Jesus said in Luke 6:45, “Out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks.”
In the same way, out of the abundance of the heart, the mind dreams.
If your heart is crowded, your dreams will be noisy.
If your heart is contaminated, your dreams will be confusing.
Lesson:
Don’t panic over the dream—examine your heart.
POINT 2: MANIPULATION BEGINS WITH SUBTLE INFLUENCE
The enemy doesn’t start with control—he starts with suggestion.
Just like in Genesis 3, when the serpent spoke to Eve:
He didn’t force her
He planted a thought
That’s how manipulation works:
A whisper becomes a belief
A belief becomes a mindset
A mindset shapes your actions
And sometimes, those planted thoughts show up in dreams:
Being chased
Being controlled
Being confused
But hear this truth:
A dream is not permission. A dream is not prophecy unless God confirms it.
POINT 3: GOD HAS FINAL AUTHORITY OVER YOUR LIFE
Go back to Proverbs 16:9.
You may plan.
Your mind may wander.
Others may try to influence you.
But God establishes your steps.
That means:
No dream can cancel your destiny
No manipulation can override God’s plan
No fear has the final say
Isaiah 14:27 says:
“For the Lord Almighty has purposed, and who can thwart Him?”
If God didn’t authorize it, it cannot control your life.
POINT 4: DISCERNMENT IS YOUR DEFENSE
Stop accepting everything—start testing everything.
1 John 4:1 says:
“Test the spirits to see whether they are from God.”
Ask yourself:
Does this align with God’s Word?
Does this produce fear or faith?
Does this draw me closer to God or push me into confusion?
Not every dream needs interpretation—some need rejection.
BIBLICAL CASE STUDY: JOSEPH
Look at the life of Joseph (Genesis 37–50).
God gave him dreams of purpose
But his journey included betrayal, slavery, and prison
Here’s the key: Joseph was not controlled by circumstances—or manipulated by what he saw.
He stayed aligned with God.
And in the end: What God showed him came to pass—not what people tried to do to him.
That’s the difference between divine dreams and manipulated experiences.
PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS
1. Guard Your Heart Daily
Proverbs 4:23 — “Guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”
2. Control Your Inputs
What you consume feeds your subconscious.
3. Pray Before Sleep
Commit your mind to God: “Lord, take authority over my thoughts, dreams, and spirit.”
4. Reject Fear Immediately
Fear is the doorway to manipulation.
5. Anchor Yourself in Scripture
Truth stabilizes your mind—even in your sleep.
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
What have I been allowing into my heart that may be influencing my dreams?
Have I been giving more power to fear than to God?
Who is truly controlling my decisions—God, people, or my emotions?

I declare over your life:
You will not be manipulated by fear
You will not be controlled by confusion
Your mind is under divine authority
Your dreams will not override your destiny
