SERMON TITLE:
THE STEPS OF A GOOD MAN ARE ORDERED BY GOD — WATCH YOUR STEPS
There is something powerful about steps.
Nobody arrives at destruction in one jump—it is always a series of steps.
Nobody rises into destiny in one leap—it is also a series of steps.
One wrong step can cost you years.
One right step can change your life forever.
Today, God is sending a warning and an invitation:
“WATCH YOUR STEPS!”
Because whether you realize it or not—
your steps are speaking, your steps are leading, and your steps are deciding your future.
KEY BIBLE VERSES
1. Psalm 37:23 (KJV)
> “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.”
“Ordered” means directed, arranged, guided intentionally
God is not random—He is strategic about your life
But notice: it says “a good man”—this speaks of alignment, obedience, and surrender
2. Proverbs 4:26-27
> “Ponder the path of thy feet… Turn not to the right hand nor to the left.”
God is saying: Be intentional about your movement
Carelessness in steps leads to destruction
3. Psalm 119:105
> “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
God does not always show the full journey
He shows the next step
4. Proverbs 14:12
> “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.
Not every “good-looking step” is a God-approved step
4 POWERFUL POINTS: WATCH YOUR STEPS
1. YOUR STEPS DETERMINE YOUR DESTINATION
Where you are going tomorrow depends on what you are doing today.
Every decision is a step
Every association is a step
Every habit is a step
You cannot walk in the wrong direction and expect a right destination.
Many people pray for destiny but ignore their daily steps.
2. GOD ORDERS STEPS, BUT YOU MUST OBEY
God may guide, but He will not force.
Divine direction requires human cooperation
You must be sensitive to God’s voice
Disobedience cancels direction.
God may say:
Don’t go there
Leave that relationship
Start that assignment
But if you ignore Him, you step into confusion.
3. WRONG STEPS HAVE CONSEQUENCES
Sin is not just an action—it is a misstep.
One wrong step into compromise
One wrong step into disobedience
One wrong step into ungodly counsel
Can delay destiny for years
BIBLICAL CASE STUDY: David
In 2 Samuel 11, David took the wrong step:
He stayed back when kings went to war
He saw what he shouldn’t have looked at
He acted on impulse
One wrong step led to:
Adultery
Murder
Family chaos
Lesson: Even great men fall when they stop watching their steps.
4. RIGHT STEPS ATTRACT DIVINE FAVOR
When your steps are ordered:
Doors open without struggle
Helpers locate you
Peace follows your decisions
God’s guidance leads to God’s provision
π PRACTICAL ACTION STEPS
1. Pause Before Every Major Decision
Ask: “Is this step ordered by God?”
2. Stay Rooted in God’s Word
The Word corrects your direction
3. Avoid Dangerous Associations
Wrong company leads to wrong steps
4. Develop Spiritual Sensitivity
Pray daily for guidance
5. Correct Your Steps Quickly
Don’t defend wrong direction—adjust fast
DEEP SPIRITUAL INSIGHTS
God orders steps, not just destinations
Delay is often a result of misdirection
Spiritual maturity is measured by disciplined steps
Destiny is not accidental—it is walked into
Many are asking God for miracles,
but God is saying: “Fix your steps.”
QUESTIONS FOR REFLECTION
What steps am I currently taking that God has not approved?
Am I walking by emotion or by divine direction?
Who or what is influencing my steps?
Is my current path leading me closer to God or away from Him?
POWERFUL PRAYER POINTS
1. Lord, order my steps according to Your will.
2. Father, expose every wrong path I am walking in.
3. Holy Spirit, give me sensitivity to hear Your direction.
4. Lord, deliver me from every step that leads to destruction.
5. Father, align my life with Your divine plan.
STRONG CLOSING CALL TO ACTION
Your life will not change until your steps change.
Stop moving blindly.
Stop following the crowd.
Stop justifying wrong directions.
Today, make a decision:
“Lord, I surrender my steps to You.”
Because when God orders your steps:
You may walk slowly, but you will walk surely
You may face challenges, but you will reach destiny
WATCH YOUR STEPS…
Because your next step could either cost you everything—
or launch you into everything God has prepared for you.
If you have not given your life to Jesus kindly do so by joining a Bible believing Church.
