But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king's meat, nor with the wine which he drank: therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. Daniel 1:8

We must grow to separate good from right. Many times we have wrongly chosen what is good instead of what is right. Again, we must know that those who would walk with God intimately must learn to be influenced by what is right than what is good. And it takes decision and submission unto the Lord for one to choose the right thing. The flesh mostly influences from the outside by what is good, while the Spirit influences from the inside by what is right.
Daniel chose not defile himself by what was good from the outside and popularly accepted. He maintained purity by allowing the Spirit of God to influence his choice.
Don't be too influenced by outside or external forces through what is good. Let the Spirit of God in your inside guide you to choose what is right even if it is not popular and convenient.
