ENDURE FOR THE CROWN
James 1:11-16
¹¹ For the sun rises with its scorching heat and withers the grass; its flower falls, and its beauty perishes. So will the rich man fade away in the midst of his pursuits.
¹² Blessed is the man who endures trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life which God has promised to those who love Him.
¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, "I am tempted by God"; for God cannot be tempted with evil and He Himself tempts no one;
¹⁴ but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire.
¹⁵ Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin; and sin when it is full-grown brings forth death.
¹⁶ Do not be deceived, my beloved brethren.

Just as examination is meant to test the ability of students for promotion in academics, so also are trial and temptation to Christians, they are meant to test our levels of growth in Christ and to prepare us for promotion which we sometimes call *next level*. Anyone who is able to endure trials and overcome temptations, therefore, stands the chance of getting to the next level, and winning the crown of life on the last day.

In the above scripture, James pronounced blessing on believers who endured trials. He went further to say that no one, when tempted should say that God tempts him, because God cannot be tempted with evil and He Himself tempts no one but each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire

By this, James implies that when trials of faith come, then comes temptation, of which falling into it can actually cause a fall and can bring eternal damnation.

What is your own trial? Maybe you are a student who has financial challenge and you are being tempted to go worldly in order to meet up. I adjure you to cry unto God for help and you will surely overcome. Yours may be as a result of your refusal to succumb to the pressures of your boss in office for fun or manipulation of figures before you can be promoted. Stand firm in the faith because God will surely fight for you and the crown of life also awaits you. Yours may be barrenness or delay in marriage and people are even mocking and calling you all sorts of derogatory names due to your predicaments. That is when you need to hold on to your God, trusting Him for everything. He will give you victory here on earth and you shall receive your crown of life at the end.

Jesus had made it clear to us that we shall see tribulations in the world, but we should be of good cheer for He had overcome the world for us (John 16:33). The admonition of the Lord to the church in Smyrna in Rev. 2:10 is also for us today. Hear what He says: "Fear none of those things which thou shall suffer. Behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison that ye may be tried and ye shall have tribulation ten days, Be thou faithful unto death and I will give thee a crown of life" (Rev 2:10). The word for you today is to endure in order to receive the crown.
James 1:12 says, "Blessed is the man who endures trial for when he had stood the test, he will receive the crown of life which God had promised to those who love Him" again in 1 Peter 5:10 the Bible says,
"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you".

In all these things, our prayers should be:

Lord, grant me the grace to overcome temptations, in Jesus Christ's Name. Amen.

Shalom!
