The Crimson Worm and the Cross

“My God, my God, why have You forsaken me?” (Psalm 22:1)

In Psalm 22:6, the word “worm” is not just any worm—it is the tola, the crimson worm. This creature climbs a tree, attaches itself permanently, and gives its life so its offspring may live. For three days, her young feed on her body, and her crimson dye stains the wood.

Jesus did the same: He clung to the cross, gave His life for us, and His blood stained the wood. The crimson worm exists for one purpose—sacrifice. Christ came for one purpose—our salvation.

“This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us.” (1 John 3:16)
