1 Samuel 20:2 NIV
“Never!” Jonathan replied. “You are not going to die! Look, my father doesn’t do anything, great or small, without letting me know. Why would he hide this from me? It isn’t so!”
Good morning and praise God. I hope you're having a good day. Let's talk about true friendship. Do you have a true friend in your life? Today we look into friendship of David and Jonathan. Jonathan was the son of King Saul and was to be the heir of Israel kingship according to the older of kingdoms at that time. His father hated David with passion after he discovered that because he had sinned and unrepented, God had given kingdom to David. Jonathan actually knew all this but he wasn't jealous about David nor joined his father's jealousy and advises. He learned to help his friend David as much as he could and remained in his lane even fighting a battle that his father had refused to. Jonathan like David followed after what God wanted to be be done rather than what the world expected or wanted him to do. In our verse of today we meet him saving David from being murdered by Saul. Though Jonathan and Saul died same day and were shamed even in death by their bodies being impaled by the enemies for public display, David later remember him. He rewarded Jonathan's son Mephibosheth with all inheritance of King Saul. Two real good friends for life and we can say even in afterlife! How were they able to be true friends? Simple, they loved God heartly and gave up their lives to strive doing what God wanted done. They did not yoke themselves together with unbelievers (people who don't care obeying God though they know Him.) (2 Corinth 6:14). Friends, when we love God heartly, we gain ability to be good friends to others and above all able to make the right choice of friends in life. Reevaluate yourself as a friends of others and also evaluate the kind of friends you got and above all reevaluate if indeed you're a friend with Jesus. God loves you, have a blessed day. Shalom. Shalom.
