📘 Daily Devotion — May 10 | Mark 8:34 (NKJV) 💯 The Cost of True Discipleship Mark chapter 8 contains one of the clearest teachings of Jesus about what it means to truly follow Him. After explaining that He would suffer, be rejected, and ultimately be killed, Jesus turns to the crowd and His disciples and explains the nature of discipleship. He says that anyone who wants to follow Him must deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Him. To deny oneself means placing God’s will above personal desires. It involves surrendering pride, selfish ambition, and personal control. Following Christ requires humility and a willingness to trust His direction. Taking up the cross is a powerful image. In the time of Jesus, the cross represented sacrifice and suffering. Jesus was teaching that following Him may involve hardship, rejection, or difficulty. Yet it also means walking in the path that leads to life and purpose. True discipleship is not simply believing certain truths about Jesus. It is a daily commitment to follow Him in obedience.
