Daily scripture: 1 Peter 1:25-25
“For through the living and eternal word of God you have been born again as the children of a parent who is immortal, not mortal. As the scripture says, ‘All human beings are like grass, and all their glory is like wild flowers. The grass withers, and the flowers fall, but the word of the Lord remains for ever.’ This word is the Good News that was proclaimed to you ”
The result of salvation is rebirth, rebirth as a child of God, and your inheritance, eternal life. We waste a lot of our time focusing on that which is mortal. This is exactly what the devil wants. He likes to distract us from the important things like accepting Jesus Christ and being born again into God’s immortal family.
Just think for a minute about your life. Think about the things you value; your physical appearance, your house, your job and all the other luxuries you own. All these things pass. Tomorrow your hairstyle would be out of fashion, you may become ill and lose your looks, your house needs constant upkeep lest it falls to ruin. These are all things important to the image we like to nurture in this life. It impresses people and we fool ourselves thinking it defines us as human beings.
Your problems also pass; next week you’ll get paid and be financially strong again, your child will come home safely from a friend, all your other troubles will eventually be sorted and, probably, replaced with new worries. Point is, even if your problems are serious, it never lasts. You should stop worrying about them so much and, as a child of God, entrust your cares to your Father. He will take care of you today, tomorrow and until the end of time. No earthly trouble can be greater than the power of God.
Are you still focusing too much on appearances in the world and on the trouble it brings? Perhaps it is time you reconsider and re-evaluate your life. Focus more on the fact that you are born again through Jesus Christ, saved from damnation and can call yourself a child of God. Nurture His Word and make it part of your life so that you can bear fruits of the Spirit, carrying His message to the ends of the earth. This is something that carries eternal value, for God will see your labour and bless you in ways you cannot imagine.
