FAITH-BUILDING REVERENCE
A WORD FROM THE WORD:
"Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment." Proverbs 9:10 NLT.
The Teacher, by God's Spirit in our anchor Scripture writes that the 'Fear of the LORD is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.' The reverential fear of God makes you to hate sin the same way God hates it. It has a way of producing faith in the life of a believing child of God, causing them to place their faith and trust in Him alone for salvation.
For instance, after the children of Israel crossed through the Red Sea on dry ground and saw how God destroyed Pharaoh's Army from Egypt, who were on their hot pursuit in order to return them to another round of enslavement, they reverentially feared the LORD God, and put their trust in Him and the result was the victories He wrought for them from the wilderness to the promised land.
The Psalmist encourages everyone who reverentially fears the LORD to trust in Him, because He is their help and shield. (Psalm 115:11). Putting it in other words, the reverential fear of God produces confidence, hope and trust in Him. The fear of God makes you understand and recognise that God is angry about sin and so desist from sin and every appearance of evil. There is no fear of God in anyone that lives in sin, John, the beloved, by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit writes 'He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning.....' (1 John 3:8 NKJV).
Child of God, endeavour to cultivate the fear of God in your heart and mind, and make every effort to hate sin and despise its fleeting pleasures, because a life of sin cannot build up your faith; only standing and living on the right side with God can do so.
PRAYER BULLETS:
ABBA Father, thank You for who You are. Empower me to be clothed in Your reverential fear, and live my life in view of the victories You have wrought for me.
FURTHER READING:
Proverbs 3:7; 8:13; 9:6-12; Ecclesiastes 12; Hebrews 10:26-31.
