Good morning, brethren.
Morning devotion for today.

MD.i. MORNING TEA
THE WORD FOR TODAY. SUNDAY MAY, 10, 2026.

"PRAYING JESUS' WAY (1)"

'…Lord, teach us to pray…’ Luke 11:1

OVERHEARING JESUS pray moved one of His disciples to say, ā€˜Lord, teach us to pray.’ It’s unlikely Jesus intended to teach them a rote prayer since He’d just said, ā€˜When you pray, don’t babble on and on as people of other religions do. They think their prayers are answered merely by repeating their words again and again’ (Matthew 6:7 NLT). His answer was more than a sample formula-prayer. He was teaching them powerful, effective principles for praying. Let’s see how we can benefit from them. William Barkley said, ā€˜The Lord’s Prayer has two major parts: the first for God’s benefit, the second for ours. Honour the first part, and the second is guaranteed.’ Part one begins with ā€˜Our Father’. It’s intended for His family, collectively as well as individually. He used the plural words ā€˜our…us…we’ to indicate prayer is a co-operative exercise, where we pray with and for each other, not just for and by ourselves. It also teaches us the power of agreeing together in prayer (Matthew 18:19 KJV). Before asking for anything, we’re to acknowledge God’s fatherhood, because prayer is: a) a matter of relationship. It’s the Father and His children in session; those who are redeemed through faith in the blood of His only begotten Son. That’s the welcome mat under your feet when you pray. It’s also: b) a matter of submission. Jesus’ disciples understood that fatherhood meant headship and authority. Prayer isn’t an attempt to get God to agree with your will, it’s aligning yourself with His Word and will. He’s a promise-keeper, not an indulgent parent.

MD.ii. FROM THE DARKNESS INTO THE LIGHT

"For He has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son He loves, in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins." - Colossians 1:13-14

There is spiritual darkness in our hearts and lives in us when God's truth does not live in us. Darkness is unbelief. Darkness is deception that keeps us far from God's knowledge. Darkness isolates us from God's presence. We must see darkness as our greatest enemy. But often the opposite is true, because when we live in sin, darkness is our greatest friend. It is then not visible who we really are.

Jesus is looking for us

Although we are able to hide from people, we cannot hide from God. Jesus is looking for us in that darkness to find us. He is full of grace and extends His pierced hands as He invites us to walk with Him in the wonderful light of grace, love and forgiveness. 'For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and all are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus' (Romans 3:23-24).

He came as a light into the darkness and the darkness could not control this. He came while we did not even understand how desperately we needed Him. He came to pay the high price which we as the offenders could not pay. He lived among us, as one of us, and saved all from the disease called sin. He did not die as a martyr or reformer, but as the sacrificial Lamb who offered reconciliation to us. He took our blame on Himself. He bore our punishment and shame. He tasted death and gloriously conquered the powers of hell. He set us free by His great resurrection power. He brought us from the darkness into the light. He is the Light of the world.

2. Morning prayer for today.

MP.i. Morning Prayer

To the chief Musician on Neginoth, A Psalm [or] Song. God be merciful unto us, and bless us; [and] cause his face to shine upon us; Selah. ā¤ Psalm 67:1

Wherever God rules over the human heart as King, there is the kingdom of God established. ā¤ Paul Washer

O God, our Father, as we begin this Sunday, we look to You for a blessing. Just as the earth opens its eyes to the sun, whose beams pour down in brightness upon fields and forests, so do we open our eyes to You this morning. May the gracious beams of Your love shine upon us. Then our hearts will rejoice, for if we have Your favor, we truly live.

Fill us with Your Spirit, and may all our thoughts, feelings, and desires be sweetened by Your presence. Sanctify to us all the privileges we will enjoy today. May our rest be undisturbed by anything worldly that might disrupt its peace. As we wait upon You, may our strength be renewed. May Your word, which we will hear today, be richly blessed to us. May its teachings be clear, and may we receive them into good and honest hearts, where they can bring forth fruit.

Let Your blessing be upon all who will minister in the churches today, leading worship and preaching to Your people. May they be in the Spirit, and may their words be filled with the Spirit. Make them holy, with clean hands and pure hearts. Give them the right motives as they minister in Your name.

Let Your blessing be upon all the congregations that will gather for worship today. May all hearts be open to the influence of the Holy Spirit. Enter every open heart, and by Your loving persuasion, win over those whose hearts have been closed to You. So may Your kingdom come, and Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. We ask for Jesus’ sake. Amen.
