The Necessity of Prayer–2
Lesson Series–2
"Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation."
Matthew 26:41
Trials are unavoidable in the Christian life. There can be no Christian life without testing. When we study the lives of the faithful people mentioned in the Bible, we see that each one faced various kinds of trials in their lives. The Lord Jesus Himself showed the way to gain victory over such trials.
Jesus saw that a great trial was approaching the lives of His disciples, because He was about to be crucified. Very soon the Roman soldiers would come and arrest Him. What a terrible situation the disciples would then face. Out of fear for their lives, they might run away or even deny Him. Many things could happen to them. Therefore He said, “Watch and pray lest you enter into temptation.” In other words, stay awake in prayer so that you may overcome the trial.
Truly, there is a power hidden in prayer that cannot be obtained in any other way. A godly man once said, “Prayer and power cannot be separated.” That means where there is prayer, there is power. Therefore every godly person was a person of prayer. The Lord Jesus Himself prayed much. In the Garden of Gethsemane, while all the disciples fell asleep, He stayed awake the whole night in prayer.
How greatly we need prayer in our lives today. If we face all the trials in our lives through prayer, then surely we will be able to overcome them.
"Seek the Lord and His strength; seek His face continually."
