Necessity of prayer-5

Syllabus-5

"Knock at the door, and it will be opened to you." Matthew 7:7

When a man goes to another man's house to meet him and finds that the house is locked from the inside, he can do three things. (1) He can leave. (2) He can stand at the door and call. (3) He can knock on the door.

He can attract his attention by doing so. If he has no special need and does not have a close relationship with that person, he can leave. But if he has a general need, he can call from outside and if he does not get an answer, he can leave saying that he will come back later. But if there is an urgent need that cannot be ignored, then he must knock on the door.

When the Lord Jesus said, “Knock at the door,” He was referring to this urgency. Knocking on the door indicates more concentration and urgency than seeking. Knocking suggests an active effort. We often pray so much that we forget what we prayed for.

Abraham pleaded with God to save Lot. He reduced the number of righteous people from 50 to 10 so that Sodom and Gomorrah would not be destroyed. (Genesis 18:22-33) The pattern of his prayer here is astonishing. This is a classic example of knocking at the door. As a result of his knocking, God sent an angel to save Lot and his family.

"Will not God avenge the wrongs of his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night?" Luke 18:7.
