Good morning, brethren.

THE WORD FOR TODAY. MONDAY MAY 18, 2026.
"STABILISING PEACE"
'...Take heart…l have overcome the world.’ John 16:33 NLT
ON MAY 3, 1943, air raid sirens sounded over London. People raced toward Bethnal Green Underground station, where more than 500 people had already taken refuge. In the next ten minutes, 1500 more would join them. A woman carrying a baby lost her footing on one of the 19 steps leading down from the street. Like dominoes, people started falling on top of one another. In the end, 173 people died. Bombs didn’t kill them, fear did! Today there’s a stampede of fear around us and, if you’re not careful, you’ll get caught up in it. It’s okay to recognise danger, but God doesn’t want you to be overwhelmed by it. So you need to monitor what you listen to, think and say. The disciples needed a rock to stand on in the coming storm. Jesus had just told them how bad things were going to get in the world and the extent to which they would suffer. He announced He was leaving and told them He would send the Holy Spirit to be with them. John chapter 16 ends with these words: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”’ No matter what the situation, Jesus is on top of it. No matter what trial you face, Jesus will bring you through it. Though surrounded by fear and the fearful, you will have His peace. And that stabilizing peace will fortify you and cause others to turn to you for answers.

MD.ii. ABBA FATHER, I AM YOUR CHILD
"The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship. And by Him we cry: Abba, Father." - Romans 8:15
One of the most important things in the life of little children is to know that they are protected, cared for and loved by their parents. They are totally dependent on them. The spiritual life is also like that. As children of God, we are totally dependent on our Father in heaven.
To be dependent means that:
you need help and support;
you are subordinate to someone else;
your life is determined by someone else.
In other words: you are unable to live and function without this person.
A child of God knows that he or she cannot live and function without Jesus Christ. This is different in our society today: you have to be able to do all on your own; 'I will do this my way, I will do it as I please.' However, the Christian knows that it is impossible to overcome difficulties without the power of Jesus and the help of the Holy Spirit.
At one point the disciples were arguing about who would be the most important. 'He called a little child to Him, and placed the child among them. And He said: 'Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven' (Matthew 18:2-4). In other words: 'Forget who is the best or the most important one. If you do not start thinking differently, you will not even make it.'
You need Jesus
What does Jesus mean by: 'become like little children'? He wanted to show them that without Him they were just as helpless and powerless as that child. You cannot do it by yourself. Let's learn this lesson: we need Jesus!

2. Morning prayer for today.
MP.i. Morning Prayer
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as [it is] in heaven. ⏤ Matthew 6:10
The will of God will not take us where the grace of God cannot sustain us. ⏤ Billy Graham
Our Father in Heaven, hallowed be Your name. May Your kingdom come. May Your will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Let Your kingdom come into our hearts and into our home. Help us to do Your will as it is done by those who are before Your throne. Too often, we want our own way and struggle to accept Yours. Give us the grace to cheerfully accept whatever You ask us to do or endure.
Yesterday, we made promises to live faithfully and follow Your commandments as we worshiped You. Help us to keep those vows today as we return to the world. Don’t let sin have control over us. Keep us from falling into temptation. Protect us from being influenced by bad company or the ways of the world. Keep us under the guidance of Your Spirit.
We ask You to give us more grace. We want to live abundant spiritual lives and produce abundant fruit. May we be branches in the vine that bring honor to You. Let the fruits of the Spirit grow in us—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. May those who seek us out for comfort, friendship, strength, or help find something that nourishes their souls.
We also ask for personal blessings for all our family members. Sweeten our home life and bind us together with tender love. Help us to support and strengthen each other in every way. Be our helper so that we can help many others in turn. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
