Jesus was subject unto His parents. He was not subject to them. Subject to means "dependent on" that means His survival was based on His parents. But subject unto means to voluntarily bring yourself under the authority, control, order and instruction of another. And this is called SUBMISSION. While Jesus was dependent on God, He kept Himself under the leadership and influence of His parents.
If we must live like Jesus we must humbly and be willing to bring ourselves under the authority, control and influence of the Holy Spirit and people that God has given us. Until we are submissive, we cannot be truly obedient. It is possible to obey without submitting but you cannot submit without obedience. Submission is a heart thing and you cannot pretend to be submitting. Time will always reveal your true submission. If you submit to the flesh, it will manifest through the deeds of the flesh. If you submit to the Spirit, it will show in your obedience to God.
