ED.i. *DAILY WALK WITH CHRIST* (COCIN DEVOTIONAL) *DATE:* TUESDAY 19TH MAY, 2026 *SUB-THEME:* RESPONSE TO GRACE. *TOPIC:* LIVING WITH ETERNITY IN VIEW *TEXT:* JOHN 6:25-29 25. When they found Him on the other side of the lake, they asked Him, “Rabbi, when did You get here?” 26. Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for Me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27. Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on Him God the Father has placed His seal of approval.” 28. Then they asked Him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?” 29. Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one He has sent.” *TOPIC:* LIVING WITH ETERNITY IN VIEW *THE MESSAGE:* Jesus came to restore man to his lost glory. This can only happen when one believes in Him as Lord and Saviour. In our text, people sought Jesus for physical and material benefits. But He cautions them not to work for food that perishes but to work for eternal food that lasts. They must focus on the things that truly matter and are not transient. Those who accept Jesus as their Lord must not place their attention on perishables like food, money and position, but on what endures to eternal life. It is painful to see some Christians using religion to gain prestige, comfort, or even political votes while paying little or no attention to kingdom business. What are your priorities? Do not lose sight of eternity and focus on material gains, which are temporal. Work for things of eternal value! *REFLECTION:* Labour for what lasts! *PRAYER:* Jesus, help me to remain focused on things of eternal value. Amen. *MEMORY VERSE FOR THE MONTH:* TITUS 2:12. John 14:9 I am in the Father, and the Father in me. The words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. John 14: 10 This is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent. John 17:3 This Disciple Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me? This disciple had been with the Lord Jesus for three years. He had seen His beautiful life.. he had felt His gentle touch.. he has witnessed His strength and His kindness and he had been an eye-witness to the works of power and the words of wisdom. Knowing Jesus Surely after such a length of time this disciple should have known His Lord? Surely after such intimacy he should have had a greater awareness of Who He was? How this must have saddened the heart of the Saviour to say to him: “hast thou not known Me?” Yet Jesus had to tell him that he did not really know Him at all. Spiritual Journey How could Philip have been with the Lord so long and yet not KNOW Him? How was this possible? What a word of warning to each of us to examine our own walk with the Lord. What a caution of us to take note of our spiritual journey with Jesus. What a lesson to find we can walk a long time with the Lord and not KNOW Him.. not really KNOW Him – not know Him as intimately as He desires us to know Him. Impossible Command Jesus loved Philip with a godly love that is impossible to understand. Jesus commanded His disciples to Love one another as I have loved you, and yet His gentle reproof to this precious disciple was: “Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me?” Jesus of Nazareth Philip KNEW the man, Jesus of Nazareth. He knew He was the son of Mary, brother of James and Jude. He watched this performer of miracles with incredulity and he listened to the lovely words that poured like healing oil from His lips and agreed that: never a man spake like this man, and they wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of His mouth. He observed his glorious character His compassion and His grace. Oh yes, Philip knew a lot about the Lord Jesus – but as yet he did not KNOW Him. Divine Glory Philip had walked with the Lord for three and a half years.. but as yet he did not KNOW His Lord. He did not know Him as the revealer of the Father. He did not know Him as the revealed of the Father. He did not know Him as the divine glory. He did not recognise the radiance that streamed from Him,, and he did not know that ‘This is My Beloved Son in Whom I Am Well Pleased” Facts of Life Not to know the Lord in this capacity is not to know Him at all. Not to know the Son of God’s Love is to miss out on KNOWING Him. We may be quite familiar with the facts of Christ’s life.. His birth in Bethlehem; His marvellous miracles; His ascension from Olivet. We may know the prophecies that tell of His life and death and even His return. We may have accepted Him as our Saviour and read the bible and pray as well, but we may be walking “afar off” from His presence. Intimate Fellowship We may follow at a distance. Yes – we may follow Him from a long way away. We need to be close to the Lord to really get to know Him, We need bathe ourselves in intimate fellowship and communion with Jesus. It is not the fault of the Lord if He seems far off from any one of us. Eternal Grace His divine love is close to each of us perpetually, His eternal grace is poured over us in great abundance, His holy correction is administered to us with infinite tenderness. But we need to take time to get to know Him. We will praise You as long as we live. We call on our souls and all that is within us to bless Your holy name and never forget Your blessings. You forgive all our sins. You heal all our diseases. You redeem our lives from destruction. You crown us with love and compassion. You satisfy our needs with good things, so that our youth is renewed like the eagle’s. You, Lord, are merciful and gracious, slow to anger and full of mercy. You won’t stay angry forever, nor will You hold our sins against us forever. You have not treated us as our sins deserve or repaid us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is Your mercy toward those who fear You. As far as the east is from the west, so far have You removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so You have compassion on those who fear You. For You know how we are formed; You remember that we are dust. Our days are like grass; we flourish like a flower of the field. The wind blows over it, and it is gone, and its place remembers it no more. But Your mercy, O Lord, is from everlasting to everlasting. We rejoice in Your eternity. We rest in it, knowing that our trust in You will never be shaken. The mountains may depart, and the hills may be removed, but Your kindness will never depart from us, nor will Your covenant of peace be removed. Grant us Your peace now, our Father, and keep us safe in the secret place of Your presence throughout the night. Bless us with Your tender love, we ask through Jesus Christ, our Lord and Redeemer.
