THE UNCTION ABIDES IN YOU

A WORD FROM THE WORD:

"And 'yourselves,' the unction which ye have received from him abides in you, and ye have not need that any one should teach you; but as the same unction teaches you as to all things, and is true and is not a lie, and even as it has taught you, ye shall abide in him." 1 John 2:27 DARBY.

The word 'unction' means 'the action of anointing someone with oil,' or 'pour on and rub in.' In the Old Testament a priest had anointing oil poured over his head, symbolising the Spirit of God resting on him as he carried out his duties each day. Now fast forward to the age we are living in and read it again: 'But the wonderful anointing you have received from God is so much greater than their deception and now lives in you....' (TPT). The word 'live' simply means to 'make one's home in a particular place or with a particular person.' In other words, you're a container for God's Spirit. And when His Spirit abides within you, it affects every aspect and area of your life.

Try to imagine the advantage this gives you when it comes to your relationships, career, health, decisions, struggles, marriage and your ministry. Imagine what it does when you're under stress and handling overwhelming challenges and situations. And what's more, the unction of God's Spirit that 'abides' in you is transferable to others. When you speak scriptural words of kindness and encouraging words to someone, those words are still at work long after you're gone because they're infused with the presence of God.

God told Moses, in the Old Testament, "You shall speak to the children of Israel, saying: 'This shall be a holy anointing oil to me throughout your generations.'" (Exodus 30:31 NKJV). 'Generations.' That means your children and grandchildren can be anointed with God's Spirit too. The psalmist says, 'I have been anointed with fresh oil.' (Psalm 92:10 NKJV). Every morning when you wake up, pray, 'LORD, anoint me afresh today.' Then go out and touch others with that anointing.

PRAYER BULLETS:

ABBA Father, thank you for Your anointing that is alive and resident in me. Engrace me through it to live a victorious life that fulfils Your purpose and glorifies Your name.

FURTHER READING:

1 John 2:20-27; Acts 10:38; Acts 19:11-12; 2 Corinthians 1:21.
