Gen.2:15
Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.
God did not put Adam in a garden of big titles or famous speeches. He put him in a garden of soil, seeds, and simple daily work. Your current job or task might feel small or off-track. But the real question is not whether the work looks important. The question is whether you are tending and keeping what God has already placed near you.
PN: This week, look at your daily tasks; sweeping, typing, answering calls, helping a child, fixing a shelf etc. Pick one of them. Do it with full attention, as if God himself asked you to do it. That is what tending means.
Practical summary for the week:
Day 1: Write down three things you did yesterday that felt ordinary or boring. After each one, write this sentence: “God saw this.”
Day 2: Choose one small task you usually rush through. Do it slowly. Notice what you touch, see, or hear while doing it.
Day 3: Ask one person you work or live near: “Is there something small I could help you with today?” Then do it without announcing it.
Day 4: Take five minutes. Look around your workspace or home. Find one thing that is broken, messy, or ignored. Fix it or clean it just a little.
Day 5: Write down one skill you already use in your current work (even something like listening, lifting, or writing lists). Thank God quietly that you have that skill.
Day 6: Read Gen.2:15 again. Then say out loud: “I am put here. I can tend. I can keep.”
Day 7: Rest. Do not try to fix or improve anything. Simply notice that God worked for six days and then rested. Your purpose does not disappear on a quiet day.
For most of us, you do not need a different job to have a purpose. You need eyes to see the purpose already hiding in the work you have. Only consider a change if your work is harming others, destroying you, or if God clearly closes this garden and opens another.
