God’s Greatness and Nearness
“What comes into our minds when we think about God is the most important thing about us.”
A. W. Tozer
God is beyond all we can imagine. He is limitless in power, wisdom, and presence. As Psalm 147:5 says, “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.”
Yet the beauty of God’s greatness is not just seen in His power, but in how He chooses to use it. God does not use His greatness to dominate or control. He uses it to love, to serve, and to draw near to humanity.
This is greatness redefined: Power that lays itself down.
Might that kneels to wash feet.
Divinity that gives itself for others.
Philippians 2:6–7 reminds us that although Christ was God, He humbled Himself and took the nature of a servant.
The God who created the universe is also deeply personal. From the beginning, He formed humanity with care and breathed life into us (Genesis 2:7). He is not distant or detached—He is near.
The clearest picture of God’s nearness is Jesus Christ: “The Word became flesh and made His dwelling among us.” — John 1:14
The infinite God stepped into human history so we could know Him personally.
What an incredible truth: The God who is above all is also close to all.
“Come near to God and He will come near to you.” — James 4:8
